This is a time to broaden coalitions, not shrink them.
Someone who hasn't seen eye to eye with you in the past now coming to see things your way? "Welcome aboard" is a much better response than "I told you so".
Ben Gvir and others behave this way bc there are no real concrete legal or political consequences for their behaviour.
They call for genocide: nothing. They abuse prisoners: nothing. They implement apartheid: nothing.
Canada should call for his immediate prosecution by the ICC.
Yes, the Ben-Gvir video is disgraceful. But that's not the issue. The (obvious) issue is that if that's how nonviolent European protesters are treated in public, any person with a brain can imagine how Palestinians are treated behind closed doors. *That* is the real scandal.
@mdgardiner1@NDP Counterpoint: I would hope that under Avi Lewis, the NDP party apparatus will be a lot more transparent, and more supportive of candidates who are willing to boldly challenge the status quo, than it had been under Watson's direction
"They are taking our land. They are paving our park. They are dismissing the democratic voice of this council. If they can do this at Little Norway Park, they can do it at any park in any neighbourhood in this city. And that is NOT acceptable," says Mayor Olivia Chow.
When I hear my fellow citizens say that our democracy has died or that there’s no point in continuing the fight, I’d ask them to consider that the people of Hungary never gave up hope. Even after 15 years of authoritarianism. Thinking of the people of Hungary today.
@RobFlackEML Now it's time to reinstate full rent control for all buildings, including vacancy control.
Stop trying to make people homeless by allowing skyrocketing rents and making evictions easier.
Good news, up to a point. It means they won't be openly consulting and moving quickly - not that they're going to stop talking about this to their landlord lobbyist buddies who pushed it in the first place. They'll try again, one day. For now on to defeating the rest of the bill!
Doug Ford's conservative government is proposing the the biggest attack on Ontario renters and rental affordability in a generation.
Not only would landlords be able to evict tenants without cause, but rent control in units built before 2018 would effectively be over.
This detail is buried at the very end of the list of changes in the government's new omnibus bill (many of which are also bad) but it is by far the most important one. This cannot be allowed to happen.

That would be an apocalypse for renters in Ontario. It would functionally neuter rent control, and could result in countless tenants losing their current apartments. This would be the most extreme anti-tenant move of all time, far eclipsing the removal of RC from new units.
I will be digging more into this later but, um, 🚨🚨🚨 the Ford government is looking to end Ontario's security of tenure rules - preventing tenants from automatically transitioning to month-to-month after their initial lease is up, and allowing landlords to refuse to renew
@jaredpalmer@github Rebase filtering!
When a patch author force-pushes after making changes to the patch *and* rebasing it, filter out the changes coming from the rebase and show only the author's changes.
Phabricator does this nicely.
This is one of the largest demovictions in Canadian history. It's opposed by the over 1,000 tenants who will lose their homes. And also by local NIMBYs.
Perks, the pragmatist, wants to accept the latest deal because otherwise they could get a worse deal. He may be right, but...
The best time to build an Internet fromprotocols designed for individual privacy and data sovereignty was January 1, 1983.
The second best time is now.
If you run into apps banning using GrapheneOS with Play Integrity, make a Play Store review with no links asking to stop banning a more secure OS. Next, make a customer support request linking https://t.co/94bjK4cnRl. Multiple apps have permitted GrapheneOS due to these efforts.
Google's Play Integrity API is quite different and only supports verifying devices licensing Google Mobile Devices with the stock OS. It has support for enforcing installing apps from the Play Store. None of this has anything to do with security. It's purely anti-competitive.
