Ecommerce operator. Built multiple 7-figure stores. Building Ariven — onsite personalization for Shopify that turns more traffic into revenue. Father of 3!
16 months ago I was laid off. For most, that's a stretch of high stress, a spending cut, and an outright downgrade to life.
Not me. I've been following @bowtiedbull and the substack since day 1. I had an ecom business on the side, growing well. It wasn't at the 2x quit-your-job point yet, but the momentum was there, and the extra hours let me replace the lost income in 6 months.
Back in 2023 I also lost my job when the overleveraged company I worked for collapsed under rising rates. I thought that was my time to break free of the W2. I had the momentum. Then the Tyson punch landed: pregnant wife, an unplanned shoulder surgery and recovery, and the business temporarily tanking for reasons outside my control. Back to employment we went.
It would have been easy to give up. Sometimes you have to laugh off the bad luck, accept it isn't time yet, put your head down, and keep building the talent stack for when it is. (RIP @scottadamssays)
During that time I went all in on AI. Found its utility in code early, for CSS and small theme tweaks. Progressed to theme sections, then full theme updates, then full-stack apps.
The ecom business keeps growing and getting stronger, but it's still one income that can be disrupted. Which leads to the next project, the shot at full financial independence: a Shopify app that brings enterprise-grade on-site personalization to any store with ease.
This chapter is not a time to stay silent. I've been gifted a lot of good advice on this platform and it's time to give back, make new friends, and help people build their own economic freedom engines.
You haven't unlocked the potential of your Shopify store if you don't use their CLI with Claude Code/Codex.
It's allowed me to:
Full scale theme redesign in days
Eliminate the need of 5+ apps and bring them theme native (FASTER LOAD SPEEDS)
Update 300 variant prices in minutes
Inventory and repoint internal links for maximum effect
Improve quality of product photos
Forecast inventory with higher accuracy
All without the manual work of doing it in the Admin. The speed it unlocks is well worth the investment of learning how to use it!
@qqwertyuiop2000@BowTiedBull Cut out the bull shit distractions in life like sports and Netflix. Expose yourself to all the different ways people with a similar skill set make money. My first million is a good podcast during the idea hunt phase as well.

@qqwertyuiop2000@BowTiedBull I’ve started all businesses while employed. If you don’t have a business and were laid off, best move is get another job. Finding a good opportunity while desperate is low odds. Also build a valuable skillset while you wait for timing to line up.
@Cernovich Cashier’s checks are good option for higher dollar private transactions like selling a vehicle on Facebook marketplace. Always request image of the check prior to transaction and look up the bank phone number (don’t trust the one on the check), call and verify it’s legitimate.
@Cernovich Makes sense. AI is leverage for the highly motivated and capable people . The left’s core voting block is unmotivated and unremarkable who have no idea how to use it.
@TrungTPhan I did this with a jet ski and the click through rate was so high Facebook pulled it down to re-review. Received 6x the clicks in 1 day vs the previous 14 days lol.
@BowTiedBroke Kite tubing was the lawn darts of watersports. I think they came out around 2006 and didn’t last a full season before they pulled them off the shelves due to all the injuries . There are some gnarley fail videos on YouTube
@EXM7777 You mean AI companies are providing generational transfer of wealth via a $200 subscription and you are not using it to generate video games that already exist?
It’s amazing how many people are AI “experts” on X giving some AI slop written advice and in the next post are complaining about usage rates on a $20 ChatGPT or Claude plan. It’s a dead giveaway you aren’t making money with AI and are a joke.
Do not build an ecom site like this! They convert like shit and only impress people who never looked at a scroll depth map. Fancy transition are a distraction, each page’s sole purpose is to get you further in the funnel to purchase. KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID!
@CalvinandNOBS Tested a Groupon campaign once and introduced us to a nice group of scammers in NYC. Couldn’t ip block them but was able to lock them to only view the pet treat supplements!
@BowTiedBull Never been easier to start, you can go from clueless to competent in one AI chat in almost any domain. Used to be days, weeks, months, years of research and pattern matching. Normal people will still choose to be prisoners of their own mind and ego.
@Aysar_Az_Ecom@adswithcami I've been served Ryze Coffee ads like this and likes, comments, shares show they are scaling really well. Lot's of comments of people saying the best ad they've ever seen.
