Kimi K3 is running 100% FASTER than it was this morning.
Why? Moonshot hit capacity and chose to stop selling NEW subscriptions instead of throttling existing ones. Every plan: sold out. On purpose.
When Anthropic hit the same wall in April, they cut existing users' usage 50% during peak hours.
Moonshot cut their revenue. Anthropic cut your usage.
That says everything.
My Kimi K3 subscription is not going anywhere.
Remember it went from
- It can hack everything
- Cybersecurity is at risk
- It is too dangerous to release
- People will make bioweapons
- It will literally cause world war

Two years ago, I was a junior student who had only just decided to pursue academia and felt completely lost about my future in research. Most of my emails and DMs to professors went unanswered.
Then Zhilin, whom I believed was still affiliated with the Shanghai Qi Zhi Institute at the time, replied and asked whether I would be interested in working on large-model training at Moonshot AI.
Back then, I did not fully grasp how accomplished he already was. Looking back, the fact that he took the time to respond to an inexperienced student with almost no representative work meant a great deal to me.
And this reflects Kimi’s genuine hunger for talent, as @Xinyu2ML mentioned: the willingness to give young researchers a real opportunity before they have had the chance to prove their potential.
Prof. @rsalakhu was an extraordinary mentor to Zhilin, and Zhilin has clearly carried that same generosity forward to the next generation. Truly grateful!

Holy
Kimi K3 has received far more love than we expected, and our GPUs are feeling it.
Over the past 48 hours, demand has pushed close to the limits of our current capacity. To protect the experience of existing subscribers, we're temporarily pausing new subscriptions and prioritizing compute for current members. Existing subscribed users are not affected.
We're adding capacity as fast as we can and will reopen new subscription spots in batches.
Going forward, we'll also split membership into two more focused plans: Kimi Membership for Kimi Web, App, and Work; and Kimi Code Membership for coding workflows. This will help us match compute more precisely and keep the experience stable.
Thank you for your patience and understanding!
Lol I think Peyman @docmilanfar really likes me. I don't actually know him, but I'm deeply honored by his encyclopedic knowledge of my academic and industry career 😆.
But jokes aside, my current and former students at CMU (and Toronto) are absolutely exceptional, self-directed, very independent in shaping and driving their own research agenda, and with impeccable work ethic, much like so many students at CMU.
A student's success is also determined not only by their advisor, but also by the environment in which they grow. There is something genuinely special about CMU. It is a very collaborative place with an extraordinary concentration of talented, hardworking, and motivated students.
Doing PhD is never easy, it is a lot of very very hard work, especially at a place like CMU. But many of these students will go on to become leaders in academia and industry, professors at top universities, founders, CEOs, and pioneers of new fields.
And I will certainly continue to celebrate my students’ achievements, their scientific breakthroughs, and the impact they have on the world.
Now it's clear why American billionaires hate China so much. They poured billions and billions of dollars into AI and overnight China released the same Open Source AI and crashed their expencive prices

Kimi K3 ranks #1 on @AfterQuery's SpreadsheetBench 2, surpassing Claude Fable 5.
An open weight model now outperforms all closed-sourced models. Read more in the Kimi K3 blog and SpreadsheetBench 2 paper linked below.
Congrats to the @kimi_moonshot team on the incredible model!

Anthropic is panicking over the release of Kimi K3. In fact, the entire U.S. AI frontier lab ecosystem is panicking right now.
When investors figure out that U.S. frontier labs have no viable long-term revenue model from paying retail customers (because China's models are both better and cheaper), the AI investment bubble will crash.
