The true version of history, including the horrors of the enslavement of African Americans and its continued impact, must be taught in classrooms. Anything less is not just ignorant but dangerous.
@jnthnwwlsn This bill is another attempt to deny the historical fact of the institutionalized slavery and dehumanization of African Americans, and to ignore the impacts that still exist today. This is no different than denying that Jewish people were the unique victims of the Holocaust.

@SianoDr Agreed, Joe. We cannot make progress without acknowledging past and present racism, exploring our own contributions to it (individually and as a society), and working to make change.
@thnorfar Absolutely. I actually got the idea from a Malcolm Gladwell podcast called “Food Fight”, which I recommend for anyone interested in higher ed diversity.
@thnorfar A4. Funding, true efforts at enrolling based on lower socioeconomic status and class. Making college affordable (funding) and a degree worth the money. Making choices: will we have the best food court around, or will we direct money to scholarships? #oklaed
@Sgraceskidmore@OklaEd A3. The problem is bigger than just schools, as housing policy is huge. For schools, we must look at integration methods based on socioeconomics and race (magnet schools?), and stop pretending that vouchers are intended for lower income families.
@thnorfar @OklaEd@ehartrich Professional development in this area, provided by those that have experienced oppression, should be an ongoing and continuous. The racial caste system is so ingrained in our society that it can only be overcome with vigilance and continuous self reflection. #oklaed
@thnorfar @OklaEd The answer is deep. Historical housing discrimination, overcharging of rents in black communities without reinvestment, the state aid formula, disciplinary policies that disparately affect students of color, etc. #oklaed
@CoachFParks@NFHSNetwork@Migliorino_Nick@tohara_o@NHS_AthDept@gonormantigers Oklahoma, until we acknowledge and truly address our deeply racist past and present, these sickening instances will continue. Each of us should start by examining our own hearts by asking how we’ve contributed to white supremacy and racial oppression.
Given the racist comments on the house floor this week regarding babies of color and now this disgusting comment against the Norman High girls basketball team it may not be high corporate taxes that are keeping businesses from locating in our state. We must do better. No excuses.
