In the US, we have encouraged and promoted our perceived most effective teachers to teach ‘honors’ and ‘advanced courses.’ We should significantly incentivize and honor teachers working with students who are struggling academically. Think Jamie Escalante!

I’ve read comments recently that phonics kills a love and enthusiasm for reading.
First things first: if you can’t lift the words off the page how can you possibly read for enjoyment?
