This is why I hate the saying “you’re only as good as your last design.” We all design bad stuff. Me. You. Everyone.
Your last design doesn’t define you as a designer just like your past doesn’t define you as a person.
It’s all about what you do next.
UX practice is based in methods which can be taught in a 12-week certification course. A "UX designer" can kind of hide behind process.
UI is based in craft/practice. It's harder to 'hide' as a UI designer, and developing that craft takes years.
some of the best creatives in the industry barely use their personal social channels.
others use their personal channels all the time.
the idea that your posting cadence or follower count is correlated to your professional ability is ridiculous
I'm publishing a memo I sent to the @scale_AI team more than a year ago about something critical for outlier success:
Hire people who give a shit.

Design systems usually take on one of two demeanors: police or facilitate.
Both are necessary, but those that focus on facilitating (by making life easier for design & dev) generally experience less org friction, greater organic adoption, and longer shelf life.
When Google puts 4 paid ads ahead of the first organic result for your own brand name, you’re forced to pay up if you want to be found. It’s a shakedown. It’s ransom. But at least we can have fun with it. Search for Basecamp and you may see this attached ad.
