Brian Kelly was fired at 5-3 after losing to Ole Miss, Vanderbilt and Texas A&M, three teams that all finished in the Top 15.
That was deemed unacceptable after Kelly went 10-4, 10-3 and 9-4 his first three years.
Then LSU made a massive near quarter billion dollar investment to change regimes and make sure Lane Kiffin had every resource necessary to meet that standard.
They gave Lane a $91 million contract, making him one of the three highest-paid coaches in college football.
They’re paying his OC and DC $5.5 million combined.
And they built a roster reportedly costing $40-50+ million, more than twice what Kelly said LSU spent on his final roster and potentially the most expensive roster in the sport.
Kelly never had anything close to that overall level of resources, and LSU still decided that losing to Ole Miss, Vanderbilt and Texas A&M was unacceptable.
Three games into the Lane era, he’s already lost to Ole Miss.
Texas A&M comes to Baton Rouge Saturday.
So if LSU loses again, it’s a fair question:
By the standard LSU established for Brian Kelly BEFORE making this massive investment, how hot is Lane Kiffin’s seat supposed to be?
With tonight’s loss @Lane_Kiffin is 13-26 against the Top 25
The loss drops him below Brett Bielema who is 23-45, and leaves him tied with Houston Nutt who was 20-40.
Pete Golding has now faced 5 Top 25 teams in his 1st 6 games as HC of @OleMissFB
He's 4-1 in those games
He's faced 3 Top 10 opponents.
He's 2-1 in those games.
The last SEC HC to win 2 of their first 3 Top 10 matchups?

Wow @finebaum eviscerates LSU and its leadership on @SECNetwork. Says the other 15 schools would vote right now to kick LSU out of the conference and Lane Kiffin is behaving like a child. You don’t ever see this on the conference’s own network.
A lot of hate for this that I don’t get. He’s a north MS guy, missed 2 years with TJS, so coming back for his 4th on the field year.
Good for him in doing what’s right for him in this process. NIL gives players options; nothing wrong with making it work in your favor.
2030 SS Jeremiah Kilgore (MS) doesn’t miss a stitch of this baseball sending it over the CF wall.
Tall athletic setup with fast hands through the zone.

Path to Omaha Average Difficulty
Oklahoma and Ole Miss the only two to eclipse 5.0 in average TSR faced. Alabama had a quite generous path to Omaha.
No one had to play the maximum of 8 games to make it. 4 teams swept their way to Omaha, with 7 (!!) sweeps during Supers.
No photo shoots dressed like a mannequin at Neiman Marcus.
No interviews in a celebrity culture magazine to explain why he keeps leaving jobs.
No shots taken at other SEC schools about academic credit hours.
Just a guy who shows up every day & goes to work.
