@spenderallegra Congratulations on your White Paper on the need to reduce tax on income, and increase it on assets. We baby boomers have had decades of incentives to steal from our children’s generation through unfair taxation, and it has to stop. Your paper offers an excellent first step.
Alan Kohler talking about the urgent need to tackle inequality. The major parties talk about it a lot but don't seem to want to do what it'll take:
💸 changes to CGT discount on investment properties
💸 start taxing wealth more than work
💸 get a fair return for our natural resources

@TelixPharma As an investor, I very surprised you have not advised us of the legal case in the US (Faruqi & Faruqi, LLP Investigates Claims on Behalf of Investors of Telix Pharmaceuticals)..or posted an explanation? I'm posting here because there is no option on Telix site.
2/3 Take control of housing price growth: prioritise policies for non-home owners, not investors. Shift ALL tax benefits to first home buyers as the essential first step, to build security for their future, and stop the financialisation of housing
@HeroStaufen It’s time to REFORM section 230 of the Communications Act of 1996, ( ironically part of the Communications Decency Act) which provides immunity for platforms to operate without fear of being sued over user- generated posts. Make them accountable.
@cathdwyer I am absolutely staggered that you have dropped Switzer from RN! I lean left, vote left etc, I don’t xpect RN to be the ideological echo chamber which it has become. Murdoch’s bad behaviour doesn’t justify this.
@AlanKohler Enjoyed your essay Alan. Congratulations. A simple suggestion-Sell the change on capital gains back to inflation, and negative gearing to new houses by transferring the tax benefits as interest deductibility for 1st Home buyers. It's not a new tax, rather a rebalancing. Possible?
"We're in danger of developing a society where some people are able to buy their 6th, 7th, 8th home, but people trying to get into the market to buy their 1st home simply aren't able to."
Albanese on the impact of negative gearing and the capital gains tax discount in 2016
@AlanKohler Alan, why are you the only person calling out the hypocrisy that is immigration in this country? For too long it has been based on flawed assumptions, and the per capita GDP calls it out. It is lazy economic policy.
@AlboMP Albo, time to end Australia's role as the Unregulated Nirvana for Free Market Capitalism. ACCC, and ASX are bad enough, but the real bad boy is 'ASIC fails to prosecute a single builder suspected of insolvent trading, despite 'devastating' impact on home owners'
@cjoye Cranking rates incrementally to kill inflation just encourages it. It failed in the late ‘80’s and reflects the echo chamber economists live in. Where are the lateral policy options?
@sallymcmanus UAW in the US are leading the inequality attack. Aus Union movement should reverse the salary multiple> No executive should earn more than 20 X their lowest paid worker. Now that will get action and public support
@AlboMP very, very sad to see yet another Labor govt chase low hanging emotional fruit (Yes/ apology) while ignoring reality. How on earth can a Labor govt support Qantas as embarrassingly as it has? Where is the support for young aspiring home owners? Absolutely crazy.
With such a divisive generational gap on housing ownership, surely now is the time for serious housing policy reform by removing negative gearing for investors, and give first home buyers tax deductibility of their housing loan interest. @cjoye@AlboMP
