July has already seen:
The hottest three-week period ever recorded.
The three hottest days on record.
The highest-ever ocean temperatures for this time of year.
It is still possible to avoid the very worst of climate change, but only with dramatic, immediate #ClimateAction.
Essential points from @gmunozabogabir following the UN Food Systems Summit Stocktake in Rome this week. It was three hectic days with essential talks, setting the scene for UNGA and COP28.
🌼Farmers and fisherfolk, cities, businesses, financial institutions, and civil society are taking action to transform our food systems. Governments must now join & turbocharge efforts! The #UNFSS2023 is a stepping stone towards this. Read it here 👉 https://t.co/af5ddcjqvz
Earlier today, I was honoured to announce @COP28_UAE food and agriculture agenda during the first day of #UNFSS2023 in Rome, which consists of four key pillars
1- National leadership and action; where we call on all governments to work with us in developing and signing a Leaders Declaration on Food Systems, Agriculture, and Climate Action.
2- Non-state actors across the value chain: where work to accelerate initiatives across production, consumption, food loss & waster whilst protecting nature and preserving livelihoods.
3- Scaling up innovations that target adaptation or mitigation and ensure they reach those that need them the most.
4- Financing; where we are in the midst of developing the mechanisms to unlock and mobilize the resources needed.
It was our promise to everyone that #FoodSystems and #agriculture will take centre stage at COP28 and this is the strongest push ever given to food systems and agriculture in the COP process.
Hence, we invite countries to embrace this agenda, join the Leaders Declaration and help us develop it further to ensure the biggest impact possible at #COP28.

The science is clear: We aren't on track to secure a sustainable, livable future.
And next week, a new report from @IPCC_CH will offer the most in-depth understanding of climate science available to date.

“It takes courage and strength to be empathetic, and I’m very proudly an empathetic and compassionate leader. I am trying to chart a different path, and that will attract criticism but I can only be true to myself and the form of leadership I believe in.” Jacinda Ardern
