Author of “Go to Hell Ole Miss,” USA TODAY Bestseller. Professor at UTC. Love dogs and hummingbirds and Grizzlies, like one of three cats, dislike February.
Lonesome Dove might be the best limited series ever made. Robert Duvall & Tommy Lee Jones are historically great in this series. This aired in 1989 but still holds up so well- it’s a timeless Western epic. Duvall is right in the middle of his prime here. One of the best ever.
I caught up w/Jay Huff. He talked about playing w/the Grizzlies, then he had some things to say about people giving the city of Memphis a “bad rep.”
“I think that the way people talk about Memphis is unnecessary, and I think Memphis is a great city.”

Texas ranger James Buckner "Buck" Barry in Corsicana, 1853. Buck was a Texas frontiersman who had a dangerous and distinguished career as a Texas Ranger, Indian fighter, scout, sheriff, and rancher. At the time this daguerreotype was made in 1853, Barry was serving as Navarro County treasurer. This is a daguerreotype, which refers to an early photographic process in which a picture made on a silver surface sensitized with iodine was developed by exposure to mercury vapor. Being that it was made in 1853, it is likely the second oldest photo I have tweeted, after the 1848 image of the Alamo.
This image comes from the extremely fine Lawrence T. Jones III collection at SMU's Degolyer Library. You can browse the collection yourself right here but be forewarned that is addictive:
