Under the UCP’s banner of “efficiency” and “local control,” this maneuver reeks of political theatre, not practical governance.

1. Wasteful Bureaucracy Masquerading as Reform
Instead of improving care, this fragmentation will create four new bureaucracies—each with its own executives, staff, and inflated budgets. It’s not streamlining; it’s empire-building. More administrators means more public dollars funneled into management instead of patient care. At a time when hospitals are overcrowded and rural communities are neglected, spending millions to create overlapping agencies is fiscal mismanagement at best—and deliberate misdirection at worst.

2. Political Control, Not Patient Care
This isn’t about fixing health care; it’s about controlling the narrative. By splitting up the system, the UCP is trying to dodge accountability and hide failures behind layers of new agencies. Who do Albertans blame when care deteriorates? With four agencies pointing fingers, no one will be held responsible. It’s a political shell game.

3. Silencing Critics, Rewarding Insiders
This move also conveniently allows the government to purge critics within AHS and stack the new agencies with loyalists. Instead of experts and front-line workers shaping policy, expect more political appointees with little connection to real healthcare challenges. Albertans deserve decisions based on science and care—not loyalty and ideology.

4. Ignoring Front-Line Voices
Doctors, nurses, and paramedics have warned against this plan. But like so many other UCP decisions, their voices are ignored. This government would rather chase headlines and distract voters than engage in honest dialogue with the professionals who actually understand the system.

5. A Dangerous Distraction
While the province battles a family doctor shortage, ER closures, and mental health crises, the UCP is busy redrawing org charts. This isn’t leadership. It’s a cynical distraction from their failure to address the real issues plaguing Alberta’s health care system.

Conclusion: Albertans Deserve Better
