If anyone happens to be travelling on an @AvantiWestCoast pendolino train, I would be greatly appreciative if they could look under seat 05 in carriage B.
I left a harddrive full of recent #insectmigration fieldwork photos in this homemade Laptop case. 😭
Thank you very much!
This male marmalade hoverfly (Episyrphus balteatus) was just caught by Olly and Jamie (@OliverPoole_ & @BugsWithBarnes ). Usually they have eyes of deep maroon, but this one has golden green eyes.
Any idea @flygirlNHM@StevenFalk1 ?
What coastal creatures will you find in @RockPoolProject's mobile rock pool? 🔎

I adore this animal!
She's a raft spider, Dolomedes fimbriatus from Whixall Moss @MeresandMosses. She floats on the surface waiting for her prey and can even jump high off the surface to escape predators like frogs!
If it's windy, she will put her legs in the air and sail! 📸3
We’re back at @FSC_Millport for 🎬2 of the Great British Bioturbationathon as part of @ConvexSeascape.
Soon, we’re heading out on the Actinia to grab our bioturbation stars. This year, we’re using C13 enhanced algae to trace the distribution of organic matter in the sediment 🌟
Data from the Blue Recovery Project shows we have recorded a total of 11,800 individual species. We also recorded 310 species from our original database, and later, we moved on to i-Naturalist and recorded an additional 492 species.
Excellent! Meet Anasaitis milesae sp. n., new to Cornwall, new to the UK, and new to science! Much Thanks to Dmitri Logunov for the help with it!

Every autumn vagrant emperors can be seen in northern Italy. Nobody knows where they come from, and sometimes they form huge swarms, like the one that came to Tornio in 2015

We've just published the genome of a pied hoverfly, Scaeva pyrastri. She is a voracious aphid predator & pollinator & so is v useful for agriculture.
Amazingly, she also migrates from N Europe to potentially sub-Saharan Africa each Autumn!

This is so sad: https://t.co/OPTxPsLlAV
In 2019 we showed that billions of insects likely develop in this region before migrating to Europe to fertilise the soils and pollinate the plants. It would be devastating if these insects were lost.
