Hurst isn’t perfect and not the most talented QB, but man is this dude an absolute gamer and a leader of men. I just love watching him lead his team and does not get enough credit for being such a stoic leader.
Marvin Harrison Jr was significantly more effective on crosser routes and in-breaking routes (posts, slants, ins) this year. See below for his numbers:
+ Inward Breaking routes: 4.54 YPRR (6th among 68 qualifying WRs)
+ All other routes: 1.35 YPRR (53rd among 68 WRs)
He was particularly effective on crosser routes, leading all WRs who ran 25+ of these routes with a 5.75 YPRR.
Despite his elite efficiency on these in-breaking routes, MHJ was just 27th in routes run on these said routes. He was 14th in total routes run, resulting in just 21.6% of his routes run coming in the form of in-breaking or crossing routes. This was just 79th among 103 qualifying WRs.
If Marv got to run some more of these in-breaking routes that he excelled at, the narrative on his rookie season might have been a little different.
