During May 2026, the #BurtonFD responded to 321 emergency calls; including; (1) house fire (6) cardiac arrests (1) gunshot wound (3) overdoses (18) MVCs - 50% with injuries, completed (28) building inspections & (6) community education events training (62) Immediate Responders.
TBT! A cold weekend in 1979 wreaked havoc as #BurtonFD firefighters fought 12 fires with frozen equipment & helmets adorned with icicles. Causes of these fires included fire places, over heated furnaces, electric heating units, frozen gas lines, and fallen tree limbs due to ice.
#BurtonFD & @BeaufortSC_EMS responded to a single vehicle collision at Robert Smalls Pkwy & Castle Rock Rd just before 5:30pm. No injuries, however one lane of Robert Smalls was blocked for approximately 30min
#BurtonFD & COB/TPR FD teamed with @BeaufortSchools to train 43 Immediate Responders for @bftcountysc. Students learned how treat an OD, @StopTheBleed, & certified in CPR. Should someone have an emergency in our schools or community, someone nearby can immediately respond.
PARENTS & TEACHERS GET IT! The training schedule clearly stated "Crews work on hydrant dressing." Now to the chief that meant train on connecting hoses & appliances to the hydrant & fire truck.... now to the #BurtonFD firefighters in the station that day .... not so much.... ๐ซค๐

911+ This week the #BurtonFD responded to 86 emergencies; in addition, #BurtonFD firefighters attended (5) community events, trained (41) new Immediate Responders at @BCHSdolphins, & completed (5) building inspections.
Due to thick brush & underbrush, #BurtonFD continues response to a brush fire which began Sunday on Angel Ln in @bftcountysc. Earlier in the week @ForestryCommish cut a fire break around the 1/2 acre fire containing it, but heat & dry conditions continue to result in smoldering.
#BurtonFD congratulates Engineer Guido Portela on retirement after 25yrs. Eng Portela was the senior man on Shift I & Shift I's 2024 Firefighter of the Year. Eng Portela has responded to many major emergencies in @bftcountysc including the 2007 crash of a Blue Angels jet.
The #BurtonFD responded to 38 emergencies this weekend in @bftcountysc; including, (23) medical emergencies, (2) cardiac arrests, (2) overdoses, (1) gunshot wound, (1) vehicle fire, (1) vehicle collision, and (2) outdoor fires that spread & threatened/damaged property.
This afternoon #BurtonFD, @BeaufortSC_EMS, @bcsopio responded to a vehicle that struck a home on Riley Rd in @bftcountysc. Crews helped remove the driver who appeared uninjured, but who was still transported by EMS to the hospital as a precaution.
Last evening #BurtonFD presented Travis Hollingsworth III with the Burton Fire District Immediate Responder Life Saving Award for helping rescue a trapped occupant from a burning vehicle after it collided with a tree & dragging the occupant, who could not walk, to safety.
Just past 7am today, the #BurtonFD, @BeaufortSC_EMS@bcsopio responded to a single vehicle rollover on Trask Pkwy by Parker Dr in @bftcountysc. Fortunately there were no injuries.
Last week #BurtonFD responded to 88 emergencies; including (1) house fire (2) outside fires (5) vehicle collisions (40) medical emergencies (2) elevator rescues. We completed (4) building inspections, & conducted (2) community training events creating (26) Immediate Responders
#BurtonFD firefighters are required two hours of training each day to maintain national certifications & prepare for the unknown. Apparatus operator training, conducting search & rescue, & providing emergency medical care are just but a few of the subjects on the chalkboard.
The fire department is the only number in the government section of a phone book who will come when called. While the primary purpose of the #BurtonFD is emergency response, our goal is to increase the daily quality of life for our citizens & the resiliency of our community.

Yesterday the Brock family received a red carpet tour of a #BurtonFD fire station. Mom & dad thought it a great way to spend some afterschool time but #BurtonFD did a little recruiting. ๐คฃ We feel confident in about another 10yrs we will have two new firefighter/EMTs.
