@MYSTERFARR @MrsCarrPRUHead I think the only way to overcome this is to increase funding, so training can be accessed by school staff, and to scrutinise the CPD and overall mindset of staff... I feel my children struggle because staff is overstretched, burnt out, and/or lacks understanding of SEN.
@tiannathewriter @YvonneMaxwell_ I feel like I am missing something with all of this... We're a white western european family. My daughter has olive skin, gorgeous big chocolate eyes and brown hair, like Mediterranean looking (she's not). My son is ginger with the complexion of a sickly Victorian child ππ€£
@Danmckie2002@Taj_Ali1 'grades mean a lot to everyone, we're all in the same boat' As a parent of kids with SEN (not affecting intelligence) I really wish that was true. The system (schools, LAs) happily leaves children with SEN behind, no matter how great their potential is.
@LAlexandra_UK@TheeDoctorB Ohhhh totally this β€οΈ Diagnosed dyspraxic and self diagnosed autistic, with four kids (2 ND and 2 NT), empathic and happy to help whenever I can. So outwardly seeming to be doing great, but the burn outs and meltdowns and imposter syndrome is huge...
@MartinSLewis I find the lack of empathy and bitterness of some (older?) people quite worrying. My parents (born in the 1940s) worked hard to ensure my standard of living was better than theirs growing up. I endeavour to do the same for my children. Going backwards isn't a good thing...
@SilvieFoxi @LeShuttle Thank you! It's extra challenging because two people in our family have disabilities, which I tweeted @LeShuttle about earlier today, but got no reply.
Six hours ago I asked @LeShuttle about support for travelling with disabled children in these circumstances. No replies, no support. Also special thanks to the highway maintenance staff who put the diversion signs in a way that created a 3h circle.
@LeShuttle we are traveling down to Belgium using Eurotunnel. We're travelling with two autistic children. Please can you give us a realistic idea what to expect approaching the terminal? DM if necessary, but predictability is imperative for the health and safety of our kids.
@nickyhey1@ChrisPage90 Actually yes, they do stop/adapt working hours. Also their houses are better adapted to shut out the heat. They most definitely don't simply 'carry on as normal' π You go ahead though, natural selection and all :)
@flamingolanduk my autistic daughter has a Flamingo Land school trip next week. Can we arrange a direct access pass beforehand? Happy to email through the required documents!
When you order Β£110+ of shopping with @Morrisons via @amazon but out of the 69 items you order 41 don't turn up π€ππ shops are closed. That's Β£100 worth of takeaway/canteen meals to make up for it, cheers. Or maybe I should just wait to feed them until I get my refund in 5d?π€
@DianaJohnsonMP Hull City Council isn't sticking to the legalities for EHCP needs assessments. Services blame the council, council blames services, and my child is getting nowhere fast! Please help π₯Ί
