With support from @DKinUganda, @SwedeninUG, @NLinUganda, @IrlEmbUganda, and in partnership with @ug_lawsociety, @UNHCRuganda, @OPMUganda, and the JLOS sector, we held a sensitization session in Rhino Camp Refugee Settlement, engaging 205 participants. The session focused on rights awareness, Ugandan laws, peaceful coexistence, and addressing challenges like GBV, property disputes, and cultural discrimination. As FIDA, we emphasized the importance of equality, mediation, and timely reporting to reduce violence and foster harmony.

Follow-up visits revealed gaps at local police posts, including inadequate facilities and a lack of female officers, which we aim to address through advocacy. We remain committed to enhancing legal awareness and access to justice, especially for refugees facing systemic barriers.

In partnership with @IDLO, our training on sexual harassment and gender-based violence (GBV) in Lamwo District is on. The session targets 30 district officials, including representatives from health centers, the @Ugandapolice1, @UgandaPrisons, Community Development Officers (CDOs), and others.

The training focuses on disseminating a Sexual Harassment Policy to raise awareness and enhance prevention efforts, addressing GBV as the most reported issue in police stations, health centers, and through FIDA’s Community Legal Volunteers (CLVs). It also aligns with the @MinofHealthUG and Employment Act requirements for health centers to implement such policies.

As a feminist organization, FIDA Uganda is dedicated to protecting and empowering GBV survivors by providing legal representation and counseling while adhering to the “Do No Harm” principle. This initiative emphasizes equipping stakeholders with the tools to combat GBV effectively.

🌍 Promoting Inclusion💫

As we celebrate 50 years of championing women's and children's rights, we continue to make a difference in the lives of vulnerable communities. With support from Wellsprings and in partnership with @DKinUganda, @SwedeninUG, @NLinUganda, @IrlEmbUganda, and Moroto District Local Government, our Moroto Legal Aid Clinic conducted an outreach in North Division.

🎯 Highlights:
-Focused on bringing legal aid and psychosocial support closer to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).
-38 participants shared inspiring stories of reconciliation through ADR services, legal empowerment, and skills training (e.g., liquid soap-making for business start-ups).
-The psychosocial officer educated participants on mental health, addressing issues like discrimination, self-rejection, and inferiority, which often lead to stress and depression.

💡 Impact:
-Clients received psychosocial support.
-Participants received legal aid.
-Concerns like unequal access to services at the main hospital were noted for action.

This activity reflects our ongoing commitment to building inclusive communities and ensuring justice for all.

Online violence doesn’t stop online, it spills into physical spaces, amplifying harm. From stalking to intimate partner violence, ICTs have been weaponized to control and monitor women. Young women face a higher risk due to their age and frequent ICT use, with violence often escalating into physical threats like stalking, assault, and even honor-based crimes.

For the last 50 years, FIDA Uganda has been at the forefront of fighting gender-based violence, ensuring women and girls have the support, resources, and advocacy needed to live free from harm. 📻 Tackling GBV & Child Marriages🚸

FIDA Uganda Moroto legal aid clinic, supported by @DKinUganda, @SwedeninUG, @NLinUganda, and @IrlEmbUganda, hosted a radio talk show on 88.7 Ateker FM 🎙️ to discuss GBV and child marriages. The panel included local gender officers and our staff, who explored causes like poverty and power imbalances ⚖️, and the severe effects like maternal deaths.

Addressing child marriage is crucial because it protects children’s rights, reduces health risks for young girls, and empowers them to continue their education 📚. Child marriage perpetuates cycles of poverty and gender inequality, making it vital to combat for the overall well-being of communities 🌍.

Listeners shared concerns about 🚚 truck drivers exploiting girls, 📱 technology enabling child marriages, and religious leaders staying silent 🛑. The session engaged many callers and emphasized the urgent need for change 💪🏾.
