🚨 WE WON 🚨
Seattle tried to dodge the Public Records Act.
The court said: not so fast.
This is a big win for @BrandiKruse, @unDividedMedia, and every Washingtonian who expects transparency—not excuses—from government.
CADF Executive Director Jackson Maynard argued the case at both the trial and appellate court levels, securing the victory on appeal.
We are proud to represent @BrandiKruse! You can watch the appellate argument at the link below. ⤵️

The @WA_Mainstream cascade conference is off to a great start! Kicked it off with a panel discussing the income tax litigation and other @CADFWashington cases with @stevemgordon67 and Patti Mann and then proceeded to a trivia contest against @robmckenna and Sam Reed where @ErikSmithWa and Burman and I narrowly placed third. Looking forward to more panels today and proud that my firm Maynard Law PLLC is a sponsor.
@stevemgordon67 and I did an interview with PBS in Tacoma - I thought the questions were fair and we were able to get our points across - tell me what you think ! @CADFWashington#waleg

"The Resistance" fighting back...

Today, the Court ruled that the plaintiffs in our parental rights lawsuit have standing to challenge HB 1296 - an important recognition that Washington parents and school officials have every right to raise these constitutional concerns.
While we are disappointed in the ruling on the merits, this fight is far from over.
We are reviewing the decision with counsel and exploring all available legal options moving forward.
Parents do not lose their constitutional rights at the school door, and we remain committed to defending transparency, accountability, and the rights of Washington families.

Political spin in state's new CO2 emissions reports masks climate policy failure

First, Ecology leadership would not have released the report without our pressure. Their original plan was to release it at the end of 2026 – four years after the end of 2022.
Our lawsuits with legislators and led by @cadfwashington, forced this transparency.
Just last month, Ecology was spending taxpayer money saying they couldn’t release this exact data even after we offered it as a settlement. 😑 2/x
The Washington State Department of Ecology (@EcologyWA) finally released the 2022 greenhouse gas emissions report – 3 1/2 years later.
The report shows that despite spending billions and increasing energy costs, state policies are failing to meaningfully reduce CO2. 1/x #waleg
"I haven't reviewed any of these documents, but based on what you're telling me, I'm a bit alarmed. The Attorney General's role is to defend the constitution, not help the legislature find ways to violate it." - CADF Executive Director @JacksonMaynard8#waleg
EXCLUSIVE: Internal records reveal Washington’s “millionaire’s tax” may be about more than just taxing high earners.
Emails obtained by The Center Square show that some lawmakers and AG staff discussed using the law to force the state Supreme Court to reconsider a nearly 100-year-old ruling that blocks a broader income tax.
That ruling defines income as property, limiting how it can be taxed.
If overturned, it could pave the way for a progressive income tax on all Washingtonians, not just millionaires.
The 9.9% tax is already facing legal challenges ahead of its planned 2028 rollout.
The fix was in from the start on the income tax.
This quote from @CADFWashington Jackson Maynard sums it up:
"I haven't reviewed any of these documents, but based on what you're telling me, I'm a bit alarmed," he wrote. "The Attorney General's role is to defend the constitution, not help the legislature find ways to violate it."
Great investigative reporting from @TJMartinell1 and @TCSWashington

Two of Washington state's most brilliant legal minds – one Democrat and one Republican – will help lead a lawsuit against the new income tax on millionaires.
It's official!
The first lawsuit has been filed against the State of Washington for implementing an unconstitutional income tax, SB 6346.
"The lawsuit is brought on behalf of individual taxpayers, farmers, and leading business organizations that represent thousands of small businesses across the state – all of whom have come together to ask the Court to uphold the State Constitution"
With a former Attorney General, a former Supreme Court Justice, and a law firm that specializes in representing Washingtonians against Olympia all spearheading the fight;
This lawsuit is going to be one for the history books.
