As part of regular monitoring, shorebird surveys with special on Spoon-billed Sandpiper were carried out between 20 and 25 January 2023 by national and international experts at the Gulf of Mottama - one of the six Ramsar Sites in Myanmar.
In a rare event at Point Calimere, Dr. S. Balachandran of BNHS captured and ringed both long-toed and Temminck stints last night. Though we get to see these two stints along with the common little stint, we rarely mange to capture and ring them together.

Indian Skimmer ringed in Mahanadi by the BNHS team during the breeding season in summer of 2022 has been resighted at the mouth of river Gautami-Godavari near Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh.

Dr Pankaj Chandan, expert on Black-necked Crane, making a presentation in a regional meeting on BNC in Bhutan. He points out that this pair of cranes has been nesting at the same spot for 15 years in Hanle!
This meeting is being held to create a joint plan for the Black-necked crane, with organizations like Birdlife, NABU, BNHS, WII, KIZ, NDF, ICF, RSPN and others attending. Facing climate change and glacier melt, the BNC needs coordinated action on the flyway!
The rapidly changing skyline of Deg Rai Mata Oran near Devikot, Jaisalmer - much after the Supreme Court directive to lay the transmission lines underground. We have already lost two bustards here, one more is roaming in this place right now. Save this Oran and secure the GIB.
Bar-tailed godwit, a bird well known for very long distance non stop flights, is being ringed and colour flagged by BNHS experts at Point Calimere, Tamil Nadu. We are looking forward to learning more about these amazing birds through our ringing program.
