Your autistic child doesn't have "behavioural challenges"
They struggle when the supports & accommodations they need are not in place

To the people yelling at me. I just feel like it’s fine to have words for things! It’s weird to turn something that simple into some line in a culture war…some battle we all need to fight over…even hate each other over.
It doesn’t need to be like this. Why not allow some space for people who want to maybe take it down a notch instead of constantly cranking up the heat.
It was an important lesson in advocacy. I don’t think we should make students fix the problems that hurt them. it’s not their job. Their job is school.
@kahnkidz@everyonereadste Why stop there? Electronic OSRs. Parents have full access to every info stored about our kids. That would be real progress. It’s 2020. Let’s have some vision. :)
I’m excited for a day full of discussion on inclusion. We need to talk about the barriers and we need to remove the barriers. It’s time to get all the levels of government on board with a #NationalDisabilityStrategy
The things that matter most to 6+million disabled Canadians are therapy, housing, education, employment, caregiver support & reliable funding. All should be rolled into a fulsome inclusive #NationalDisabilityStrategy let’s do this! @ODCoalition@CANDisStrat @DisabilityUnion
We don’t want to push for funding.
We don’t want to get the skills.
We don’t want to make the time.
We just won’t do that here.
This is what they are really saying. Our education system is either complicit, lazy or purposefully corrupt in not meeting the needs of all kids.
@Sanderstheresal@AutismAdvocacy_@ODCoalition I long to see the day where we take all the different programs in Ontario & turn them into 2 - Ontario Children’s Disabity Program and the Ontario Disablity Supports Program with transition spawned at age 17 to help kids become adults. Helping all citizens thrive at their level.
I’m not ok with restraining kids.
People are naive to think kids are not being restrained in public education.
This attitude allows the abuse to continue. You are normalizing child abuse. You are part of the problem.
Stop saying it’s ok. Kids have died.
Segregated classrooms.
Do these kids grow up into segregated employment?
Segregated housing?
Segregated hospitals?
Segregated travel?
Segregated communities?
I will never understand the advocacy of segregating children. Time to make a seat at the table for everyone.
My 2020 will be ALL. ALL disabilities ALL needs ALL ages. It will be knocking down barriers, making people listen, raising voices for those who can’t. Understanding rights & advocating for ALL. It doesn’t matter if you see my point but think it’s too big, mute or block me #ALL
@sharon_coco@ASDalliance@SenatorMunson@HonAhmedHussen@PattyHajdu@CQualtro There are over 6 million disabled Canadians. We need a combined and unified National Disability Strategy that can begin breaking down all the barriers that our fellow Canadians faced. It’s time to start removing diagnosis silos and helping ALL Canadians. It’s Time #2020Vision
@kell_mcgarry @JulieMDPanneton There are many Individual advocates who are awesome at advocating for supports for multiple disabilities. But there are some organizations that only fight for their disability & do not outreach with other disability organizations to plan together on common approach to govt
We all have our own experiences with particular disabilities but we are stronger with our advocacy when we can amplify the need to support all disabilities at all ages. Disability orgs need to outreach and not be stuck in silos of fighting for “thier” piece of the “pie”. #onpoli
@ChantalChartran No but Ontario has siloed kids into ABA programs and away from education. We commute 2 hours a day and pay heavily for our education. I believe families need #schoolchoice if public education is not supporting especially around transitions.
4am thoughts why is no one focused on education? This one has haunted me for 15 months and counting.
Kids have a fundamental human right to receive an education with their peers. Fight for it. It’s important. #HumanRights#educationforall
