After 8+ years, in 2024 we will go live with online registration. THE #1 consumer use case.
1) Use @Clear or @IDme in app of 🫵🏻 choice
2) Aggregate health info using #TEFCA
3) Send @carinalliance@SMARTHealthIT digital insurance card to your doc
Open. Free. Consumer-directed.🧵
Onstage with @carinalliance and @texashealth at #HLTH2025 discussing how using open standards and digital insurance cards can streamline patient registration and kill the clipboard.
Recently crossed over a million digital insurance cards shared each month—helping patients confirm their coverage up front and avoid surprises later.
Thank you @SecKennedy, @OIGatHHS, and @HHS_TechPolicy for your leadership in enforcing information blocking so all Americans can access their digital health information where, when, and how they want to achieve their own health goals. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
We will not tolerate any company that blocks your right to access your health information—or your right to share it with the trusted parties you choose.
This is a BIG deal for patients & the @carinalliance, especially if @HeyEpic will accept not only the EpicID, but also portable digital identity credentials via OpenID Connect (OIDC). TEFCA and the CMS-aligned network commitments have asked for it so I'm excited to learn more! 👏
🔔 In case you missed it: we released our May 2025 State of the Payer Patient Access API Report last Monday!
As a third-party developer, Flexpa has a unique role in the industry: setting the bar for the best patient experience. Our latest report focuses on exactly that—how real-world implementation decisions affect patients, developers, and the broader ecosystem.
To measure this objectively, we developed a robust set of criteria that assess outcomes across these key groups. It’s time to move beyond compliance checkboxes and focus on what really matters: adoption and impact.
🔍 Join us and the @carinalliance as we walk through the findings next Friday, June 6, from 1–2pm EST.

🚀 @Flexpa is launching the Flexpa Endpoint Directory! It's the biggest payer endpoint directory in existence. And it's free and open access.
Why does this matter?
➟ Endpoint discovery is a key part of health information exchange at scale
➟ Directories solve the discovery problem by organizing FHIR connections
➟ Endpoint discovery was left as an open question for CMS-9115 and 0057
Flexpa's Endpoint Directory provides detailed, real-time information about each connection status, authorization requirements, and FHIR API capabilities for hundreds of health insurance payers.
Getting here wasn't easy. A huge debt of gratitude is owed to everyone at Flexpa who made this possible especially @angelac_liu and of course the tireless efforts of all @carinalliance members.
🌐 What do you know about interoperability in health data and initiatives like the Blue and Yellow Buttons?

Ultimately, a user using a #TEFCA based approach and a consumer facing app will have the choice to use a single identity proofed credential (IAL2) to access their records from ANY connected health system.
This has been our goal for the last 7+ years! 👏🏼👍🏻 It’s happening! 😁
🚨This is a HUGE deal! Consumer facing apps can now access #TEFCA & OAuth to help 🧒🏻👧🏿 find their clinical data from any provider who uses Epic. Ultimately, they can access data from any health system whose EHR is connected to #TEFCA. 👏🏼🧵@ONC_HealthIT

Once users authenticate in their app, their app would connect to a QHIN, search providers across the country, and return the log in screens for the health systems where the user’s data is located. The user will then authenticate again & access their records using FHIR. Progress!
We are going to have so much fun! Come learn from the experts what the current status is of the CMS Patient Access API, that includes the @carinalliance IG for Blue Button, and practical advice for how it can be improved in the future.

Yes @HITeaWithGrace! It’s called the International Patient Summary (IPS) & it’s an @HL7 standard. Hopefully, coming to a provider near you soon.
Kudos to @WADeptHealth & Dr. Bryant Karras for being the first in the nation to pilot this with @ePatientDave! #HIMSS24@carinalliance
Thank you @sartin_shannon and @DatavantHQ for providing more than 2M patients FREE access to their health information each year!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Good slide from @AMugge laying out all the IGs by API use case in the CMS final rule re prior Auth for service, items. Need industry to partner on using and fine tuning these IGs moving forward @hl7@carinalliance. And Prior Auth for medications is next up! #himss24
Health Apps that engage in #TEFCA and the @carinalliance can be trusted. @rryanhowells highlights how these apps surpass HIPAA standards and have additional requirements. He also highlights the independent accreditation, which is available from @DirectTrustorg#HIMSS24
