Talk about a successful book launch 🏾📚
Howard University Graduate School Dean Dana A. Williams, author of “Toni at Random,” sat down with Howard alumna @ayesharascoe at D.C.’s Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library to chat about the book’s development, Toni Morrison’s iconic career, and the future of the publishing industry for Black women.
The book follows Toni Morrison’s journey at Random House as she became one of its most important editors and worked with writers and icons such as Toni Cade Bambara, Leon Forrest, Lucille Clifton, Angela Davis, and Muhammad Ali.

First things first, we love Keisha Clark!
Keisha Clark is a high-achieving track star from Los Angeles with her sights set on attending Howard University in Mara Brock Akil’s “Forever,” now playing on Netflix.
As a modern reimagining of Judy Blume’s iconic 1975 novel, “Forever” centers Black teenage life in a refreshingly intimate and culturally expansive way.
But this is not just a love story between two teenagers, it’s also a love letter to ambition, identity, and the institutions that help shape Black futures.
“Keisha’s dreams of attending Howard are more than academic aspirations; they represent her pursuit of a space where Black excellence is the norm,” writes Caleb Robinson.
The inclusion of Howard University as Keisha’s dream school is a powerful narrative choice.
“It highlights the draw of a place known for Black excellence, culture, and community, and could definitely spark more interest in the school from viewers who connect with that vision,” said Howard Associate Director of Admission W. Steven Peterson said.

This Pride Month, we celebrate CASCADE, the oldest LGBTQ+ advocacy org at any HBCU and a proud part of Howard. More than a group, it’s a home where students are free to be their unapologetic, undeniable selves.
We also spotlight Howard’s Office of Intercultural Affairs & LGBTQ+ Resource Center, which supports our campus community through inclusion and advocacy.
Happy Pride Month! 🏳️🌈

Welcome Class of 2025, we’re so excited to see all the amazing things you’ll accomplish! 🎊
It Takes a Village.
Before the degree was ever earned,
there were voices praying in kitchens,
hands tying shoes,
mothers doing hair for hours and ironing dreams,
fathers working doubles — in boots or boardrooms — hiding their pain in calluses and quiet.
There were aunties who showed up with open arms,
grandmamas who laid hands and laid plans,
older siblings who became second parents,
neighbors who gave rides,
teachers who saw brilliance before the world did.
This weekend, as our graduates walked across the stage,
they did not walk alone.
They carried with them Sunday school songs,
summers with cousins,
home-cooked wisdom,
and every sacrifice whispered in silence so they could soar in sound.
At Howard, we honor not just the individual achievement—
but the village behind the vision.
To every mama in the crowd, wiping tears through sunglasses,
to every uncle and auntie shouting from the bleachers,
to every sibling holding a sign and a whole heart of pride—
this degree belongs to you, too.
Black excellence is not born in isolation. It is raised, nurtured, and carried forward by community.
