Wrasse are a keystone species in Scottish inshore waters, and maintain healthy ecosystems in a variety of marine habitats. However, a lack of fishing controls is severely depleting their population numbers, which can have severe knock-on effects for marine ecosystems.
Environmental Standards Scotland have responded to concerns over the impact of fishing on wild wrasse 🐟
Now Marine Directorate will make an appropriate assessment before the start of the 2025 wrasse fishing season.

Deep sea mining plans blocked in Norway 🇳🇴🚫
Environmental groups described the news as a “historic win” for ocean protection.
Oslo had planned to let companies apply to mine 280,000 sq km (108,000 sq miles) of its waters, an area greater than the UK, for deep-sea minerals.
Lots of empty native #oyster shells in front of #Ullapool golf course, evidence of the lost populations that we are restoring in Loch Broom. Oysters were once abundant here, they would have had a huge impact on coastal water quality. We need to restore at scale #Seawilding
