@glorify_central@ErickYbarra3 “And we also thank God constantly for this, that when you received the word of God which you ***heard*** from us, you accepted it not as the word of men but as what it really is, the word of God, which is at work in you believers.”
1 Thessalonians 2:13 RSV
@glorify_central@ErickYbarra3 Scripture itself identifies certain apostolic oral preaching as being “the word of God” in 1 Thessalonians 2:13, Luke 10:16, Acts 17:10-12.
The word of God is not fallible.
@glorify_central@ErickYbarra3 The Apostles weren’t morally perfect — Peter caused scandal likely because of cowardice. But after Jesus breathed on the Apostles, they were protected from error by the Holy Spirit when they were preaching and writing Scripture.
It is absurd to think the Bereans were acting out on sola scriptura. For even Protestants admit Paul was an infallible prophet at the time when he was preaching in Ephesus. And therefore by Protestant standards, there couldn’t have been sola scriptura in Berea. And if they did, they would have to reject Paul, something no Protestant would defend.
What they did was simply look at the arguments Paul made from the Scripture and were convinced. Catholics and Orthodox do the same exact thing.
@cherpers@JeepHokie23@TheEcho13 No mainstream Christian tradition has ever interpreted those verses in the twisted way in which you do. That should be a hint that you're reading it wrong to justify your sins.
@grlfrmboston@JackBridgesRZ Catholicism is not a Democracy. The Church teaches that, as married couples, our bodies belong to one another and that we should not deprive one another, except by mutual agreement for prayer and fasting.
@Be0rn0th@cherpers@Arrigi@FindingHomeland@Hestia_Esq It's no use. This woman doesn't care what the St. Paul wrote.
She's using Christian ethics to keep men in abusive relationships but doesn't think Christian ethics apply to her in any way.
@cherpers@wil_da_beast630@on_bicycle@Beth_W14 The average American woman is obese. Sexual desire is not associated with obesity, but it is correlated with reduced "arousal, lubrication, orgasm, and satisfaction"

@cherpers@MeghanEMurphy The morality you're espousing is not based in Christianity. It comes from modern therapeutic culture. Christian men and women are called to engage in self-giving love. Mutual pleasure is not the basis of morality, which my examples you failed to answer disprove.
Breaking: Pope Leo XIV tells states that Catholic Colleges and Universities must teach "sound doctrine" and that it is not enough to teach intellectual truths but they must teach the "Truth that is Christ."
@cherpers@MeghanEMurphy It’s your crazy rule, not mine.
You claimed it’s a “grave sin” for a loving wife, who is not in the mood, to engage in sex with her husband because that would be enabling selfishness.
Why can’t a wife choose to selflessly pleasure her husband simply because she loves him?
