What is true patriotic history?
It teaches people to be good citizens.
To understand the Constitution & act accordingly
It teaches US history in all its complexity--not white-washed.
Whenever people insist we shouldn’t be “ashamed of our history,” what they’re really saying is they don’t want to be shamed for their actions and beliefs in the present.
When people complain about the militarization of the police, this is what they are talking about. A suburban PD bought lots of doomsday gear, which of course then has to be used. #DemilitarizeThePolice
