St John the Baptist, Erith. The only remaining mediæval Thameside church in north Kent and one of the few remaining ancient parish churches in the London Borough of Bexley. The sundial dates from the Civil War. Quite understandably locked.
There is a pretty easy answer to this. Violent crime of domestic origin is very difficult to stop happening. Violent crime from recently arrived immigrants is very easy to stop. At the border. Every violent crime committed by immigrants is an acute failure of immigration policy.
Standing room only to hear the Archbishop of Canterbury preach at our monthly Choral Evensong, officiated by the Rector and attended by the Bishop of Rochester and Archdeacon of Bromley & Bexley. I read the first lesson from our AV lectern bible. #StNicholasChislehurst
Ideological conditioning and two-tiered policing are glaring symptoms of civilizational decline. They must be rejected across the West.
The United States sends our condolences to the family of Henry Nowak and the people of the United Kingdom at this troubling time.
Evading the issues raised by the Novak killing by hiding behind the family is wrong on many levels. The one Starmer would understand, as a lawyer, is that the case against Henry Novak's killer was brought by the Crown, on behalf of everyone. This isn't a private prosecution. Nobody wants to cause the Novak family additional anguish, but this case was brought to trial for the public good. The issues it raises remain in the public domain and are entirely legitimate subjects for political debate.
🧵Why has the Church of England chosen to spend more money on one single racial justice officer than on investing in 200 new choirs?
The latest report of the Church Commissioners shows that they put £0.4m into the RSCM programme to help start 200 new choirs.
At the same time, they put £0.5m over three years into funding a racial justice post in just one single diocese...
As Michael Ramsey warned.
"I believe also that there is still much to be learnt from the Matins and Sermon whereby congregations were nurtured in the Scriptures ... I am pleading that we may be careful about values which may be lost."
It reminds me of the grooming gang trials, where family members of the accused would openly rant and rave that the rapists were innocent and that the victims had it coming. Living in a multicultural society really does prove that Western Europeans are the least ethnocentric group on planet earth - a trait that makes them incredibly easy to take advantage of.
DID YOU KNOW? Until the Naturalisation Act (1844) naturalisation was so rare the only way for foreigners to become subjects was a private Act of Parliament - which required petitioning, evidence of loyalty and parliament approval. Handel became a subject in an Act named after him
For #AscensionDay let’s champion a return to public view for William Hogarth’s vast Ascension triptych - proof the English could rival the Continentals in grand-scale church history painting. Painted for St Mary Redcliffe, it now hangs hidden behind a curtain in St Nicholas, Bristol. Surely it deserves better?
@timothy_stanley If only we could create a system where a collection of families considered it part of their dynastic duty to invest in preserving and evolving this essential tradition in Parliamentary government…
Arooj shah has been one of the main opponents of a grooming gang inquiry in Oldham and on her first day Harriet Harman, on her mission to improve the lives of women and girls in this country wants to appoint her to the lords? Completely rotten
@2D0XPS On a somewhat similar note, I suspect that since I was first elected two years ago, I have been the youngest currently serving churchwarden in the Diocese of York (then 25, now 27) - though I know there have been younger churchwardens in this diocese in the past.
A very special Evensong at St Clement, Knowlton, as 18th century parish worship was authentically replicated, replete with west gallery music and 1662 lessons from a three decker pulpit. I cannot give enough credit to Philip Price and his With Cheerful Voice choir. #DeepEngland
No other major European country imposes VAT on education. More than 100 independent schools have now gone under in Britain since Labour decided it would do so. Ideological vandalism.
@jfwduffield The Cinderella effect (male cruelty rates to non-genetic offspring are ca 10x higher than natural fathers) is so well-attested that adoption is always a risky business. To consign a child to two males is itself a criminally risky act which only ideology could forgive.
@cabinetofficeuk@QETrust@RoyalFamily This was the winning design, why have you completely changed it to something that wasn't even part of the process?
