A fire jumped the border from New South Wales to Victoria near the township of Walwa. In less than 24 hours it approached the township of Cudgewa at menacing speed.
Three local police had mere minutes to evacuate residents who found themselves unexpectedly in the fire’s path.

Our Firefighters continue their deployments to the fireline & IMTs day & night working in close partnership with FFMV crews & interstate fire services who are working hard to bring the remaining bushfires in Gippsland (South East Region) under control. It's been a long season.
Great work Riggzy and all involved in getting NVIS off the ground, this additional capability to our firefighting arsenal is adding real value to support our air & ground forces in suppression strategies. NVIS will continue to enhance ops as we learn & build further experience
Well said Craig, this was dark day in Victoria’s fire history & along with several other dates passed and approaching, it provides a reminder to everyone that Mother Nature will dish up challenges during summer and we must all stay informed & have plans to enact as FDR’s rise.

Rosedale bushfire 4/1/18. Under challenging conditions fire & emergency services came together with community to protect life & property. Underlying dryness, heavy fuels, high temps, strong & erratic wind conditions led to rapid & intense fire development. No injuries. Good work!

Today marks the 75th anniversary of the tragic Tarrawingee fire that took 10 firefighter’s lives & injured many more. Family descendants, local dignitaries, & CFA members gathered to pay our respects & remember those who paid the ultimate price 3 days before Christmas 1943.
