A look at every @SEC team after Week 4:
ALABAMA
Bye week. Intended starting OL has only played one game together. Making sure the OTs are fully healthy + getting extra practice reps with each other should help.
The young CBs have been lucky so far not to get burned several times. Are they mature enough to learn from film in the bye week despite the on-field results smelling like roses?
Beat Georgia at home as a short underdog and Bama is a lock for the playoffs, as they'd get in at 10-2.
Let's analyze all 16 @SEC teams after Week 3!
ALABAMA
The Tide haven't faced a real passing QB, which is concerning with Georgia's Carson Beck on the schedule next. Got TJ Finley of WKU in Week 1; he's since been replaced by Caden Veltkamp (27/30 in Week 3). Then faced USF's Byrum Brown, who is completing 56% of his passes for just 5.3 ypa. Then Tyler Van Dyke (Miami transfer) got hurt at the end of the first possession at Wisconsin. The inexperienced CBs have looked very vulnerable at times IMO. However, LT Overton and Deontae Lawson were studs. Georgia's pass pro looked suspect at times, so that's something to watch. Bama needs pressure to help back end.
The OL got LT Kaydn Proctor back from injury and RT Elijah Pritchett was healthy and started. With the true starting 5, it was night-and-day better. With OL protecting, the running game looked much better. And Milroe, who is prone to holding the ball too long, had the protection to do what he does best as a passer -- hit the deep ball to Ryan Williams and company. Jam Miller (9.1 ypc) and Justice Haynes (8.7 ypc) are averaging almost a first down per carry. And Milroe remains dangerous as a runner.
TEXAS
Is Texas that good or is Michigan that bad after the 31-12 beatdown in Ann Arbor?
For now, I'll go with "both." Michigan is sunk if Davis Warren is the best they can come up with at QB. And the Wolverines defense and coaching staff isn't what it was last season.
TEXAS A&M
The loss to Notre Dame looks even worse after the Irish lost to Northern Illinois.
QB Connor Weigman was atrocious in Week 1: 12 of 30 for 100 yards, 0 TDs and 2 INTs.
Weigman was accurate against McNeese (FCS program), going 11/14.
TENNESSEE
I predicted before Week 2 that the Vols will make the College Football Playoff.
I think 3 SEC teams will make it. And I think right now, the Vols have a strong case as the third-best SEC team.
Ole Miss, Alabama and maybe Missouri (w/easy schedule) will challenge.
SOUTH CAROLINA
I'm not buying the "I told you so" narratives on freshman QB. Yes, he went from 10-of-23 vs. Old Dominion to 11-of-15 at Kentucky.
He's also taken 7 sacks and completed two passes for 20+ yards in 2 games.
OLE MISS
Our intention at @wakeupsec is to serve all 16 fan bases with quality, fun and accurate content in a way that you're not getting from the mainstream media these days.
But we'll admit we're partial to @Lane_Kiffin. He gives us joy with his sense of humor and honesty.
OKLAHOMA
This is definitely not the offense that Sooners fans are used to. It's already down to 36th in SP+, which bases much of its rankings on priors this time of year. (8th-ranked offens in 2023)
So the Sooners may soon find their offense ranked outside the top 50.
