Life of a high school coach - back in the gym starting Saturday Skills for K-1 and 2-6 today! Youth development is one of my favorite parts of the job.
The best high school teams share one secret: no egos.
The kid who dives for loose balls means as much as the one who scores 20 every game.
The coach who holds everyone accountable builds champions—not just players, but people.
The hardest parts for me was believing someone would give me an opportunity…
Believing someone else would see what I knew about myself…
It wasn’t believing in what I was capable of…
It wasn’t believing I could be great if I got it…
I see a lot of people allowing their circumstances, other people, to dictate what they believe about themselves… trust what you know about yourself, remind yourself every day… & never let someone else’s NO, make you think you are NO good!
A kid who hustles on every play will always be more valuable than the one who coasts on talent.
Effort is a skill. Effort wins games. Teach your players that effort will take them places talent never could.
You never really know what a player is all about until you see how he handles competitive adversity.
Some fight through adversity and some take their ball and go home.
The older I get, the more I realize reliability is the key to life. You’ll achieve much more by being consistently reliable than by being occasionally extraordinary. Show up, do the work, repeat. The recipe for success in any area of life.
Never judge a book by its cover. Likewise, never judge an athlete by their appearance alone. An athlete who looks unathletic may be exceptionally skilled, mentally tough, and smart.
@SportPsychTips Nick Saban said, "There can be no great victories in your life unless you overcome adversity."
"You can’t be a great competitor unless you overcome adversity. That's mental."
The best aren't fearless - they just keep showing up.
They choose toughness, persistence, and grit.
