Well my mind is totally blown! 🤯
I only popped down to watch as there’d been an influx of Sedge and then this is pulled out the net. Lots of head scratching at first, especially from a non-ringer like me, but it soon started to sink in this was something special @BirderGaz
Exceptional arrival across Scilly over the last 24 hours - pallid swift, night herons, purple herons, R-r swallow, woodchat shrike, hen harrier, R-n duck & 7+ golden orioles!! As always, I couldn’t see it all, but after seeing this scene below, little else mattered! #ScillyBirds
LESSER YELLOWLEGS still by Frampton Marsh RSPB car park this morning, while COMMON NIGHTINGALES have returned to many locations in SE England. The male MYRTLE WARBLER continues in Ayrshire
Ringing details received of a Nightingale caught at Abberton 🇬🇧 in May 2023 - ringed at Tanji, The Gambia 🇬🇲 in January 2020. 4 years, 8 migrations. Ace! 👌
What a cracking year 2023 was for ringing at Trimley, smashing our previous best total of birds ringed by over 500! The ringing report is nearing completion so if anyone wants a copy, please feel free to DM me your email address.
Best ever winter session at Swindon STW. All the targeted habitat management paying off: we ringed a record 18 Snipe and 9 Jack Snipe. Also 4 Teal and a record 28 Chiffchaffs. There can't be many 13 year old girls who get to ring Jack Snipe and Snipe in the same day!
Early start at 5am & on the road to Heybridge yesterday morning. Met up with @GarryBagnell on the street in the dark & joined one other keen birder on the sluice. Ridiculously, by 07.37 am we had seen the NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH really well in the ditch!! Awesome bird & scrubland!
It's on days with persistent heavy rainfall and strong winds (the last 2 days) plus I'm working from home now, I cast my mind back to the huge importance of winter scrub management > Spring 2023 > net lanes looking awesome and last year we had a breeding attempt by nightingale!

The first bird of 2024 ringed yesterday, this lovely great tit (Parus major). Make sure you keep your feeders topped up and clean along with a clean fresh supply of water #greattit#ringing#scrub
@AliDrummond4 That's correct Ali. This is merely creating deadwood with more to be added. Also, surveying for males/ females at dusk plus other techniques during Summer.
1st January 2024 - enjoyed a lovely perambulation this morning around my ringing site. Lovely to take note that some of the fallen trees from last year, left as deadwood, have now begun to harbour fungi. Next is 'hoping' to locate stag beetles here during the Summer #fungi #2024
