Our latest paper is out now in @J_A_C_S. In this study we tried to push the limits of #electrochemistry beyond proteins, to studying entire pathways of biological electron transfer ⚡️🦠. Here's a summary 🧵 (1/10)

A paper published in @CurrentBiology by Alberto Scarampi and colleagues in @CJHoweLab adds significantly to our understanding of bacterial evolution by showing how #cyanobacteria can rapidly develop resistance to a #herbicide. Read more: https://t.co/RhnPrR3WHE
Here's something a little different to our usual research. In our new perspective out now in Applied Phycology (@bps_algae), we describe how you can use the electrical signals of algae to generate music 🦠⚡️🎵. 🧵1/12

My week @2024_ePS2 in Padova is coming to an end, a week with cool science, good food and fascinating people in a beautiful city. I really enjoyed giving a talk and connecting with people! Receiving one of the poster prizes was the cherry on the top. Thanks to all the organisers!
I’m having a fun time @2024_ePS2 in Padova, speaking about photosynthesis and my soon-to-be-done PhD project on cytochrome c6A. Just before I got to explore the botanic garden as well and here’s a cool tree for you to admire 🌳
Here is a preprint of a cyanobacteria and light-activated extracellular electron transfer (exoelectrogenesis) story from my PhD. Removing the exopolysaccharides around the cells increased the photo-current we could harvest from them ☀️🟢⚡️
We are very pleased to invite applications for an exciting new position of Professor of Synthetic Biology or Engineering Biology. Come and work with us and our @EngBioIRC group to build bridges across @Cambridge_Uni. More details here: https://t.co/DE8BOlrIVZ
🔬Are you interested in a career in research?
Applications are now open for the 2024 Experience Postgrad Life Sciences programme - a paid 8-week summer internship @Cambridge_Uni and @CorpusCambridge.

As a tradition in the Howe Lab we have a day out at least once a year (aka ‘lab jolly‘). Today, we visited the historic and pretty #FramlinghamCastle (managed by @EnglishHeritage) and refuelled with food and local ales after!
Great #PlastidPreview conference at @NewCollegeOx, Oxford! The Howe lab delegation enjoyed the science and hospitality (see our group picture under the famous Harry Potter tree!)
Special congrats to @bartosz_witek for winning a poster prize!
Chris Howe (@CJHoweLab ) gave a lecture and unveiled a new plaque outside the Eagle pub recognising the contributions of Rosalind Franklin and Maurice Wilkins to the discovery of the structure of DNA, as well as Crick and Watson 70 years ago: https://t.co/fRxRXL96dp
Photosynthetic electron transport chains can be 'rewired' for solar-powered electricity and chemical production. Check out our @natrevbioeng review for insights into this exciting research field ☀️🌱⚡️🧪 #Photosynthesis#RenewableEnergy#Sustainability

Close to the end of my exciting time in @PhotoMicrobes group @UniTurku, it was great to present my work on cytochrome c6A and its evolution at the Plant Unit Seminar.
I’m usually a bit nervous before giving talks but during, I realise it’s one of the most fun parts of the job!
How early can we steal electrons from photosynthesis for renewables applications? Our work on ultrafast spectroscopy and electrochemistry is out now in @Nature. Here’s a summary of our findings … 1/12
