The evolution of design, our Chronikin start in the sketch book of our creative director and end in the hands of our amazingly talented artists. Some Chronikin go through several redrafts until we feel like we've completely captured the myths that inspire them.

Chronikin Spotlight: Though just recently archived, Basheklet is believed to be one of the first Chronikin to appear in the physical world. Its utterly alien appearance stumped researchers and it was originally mistakenly identified as a Prosaic. However, discovering that it could be bonded with erased any doubt of its nature as a Chronikin. The undulating mass of purple liquid seems to contain no internal body, though it does appear to have celestial bodies within its dense interior. The tendrils that sprout from its pooled body can create constructs and thus Basheklet is tied to many creation myths. Despite it's lack of facial features, the few who have encountered one say its emotions can be felt, though how Bashaklet accomplish this is unknown.
Chronikin Spotlight: Korachnora are an arboreal species of Chronikin. They are often mistaken for fruit due to their habit of perching on the boughs of healthy strawberry trees, sometime staying motionless for hours. However, if disturbed they quickly skitter away deeper into the canopy, even jumping from tree to tree. Though arachnid in appearance, their body upon closer inspection has more plant-like features. Instead of a chitinous exoskeleton, their legs are smooth and hard like the bark of the aforementioned Strawberry tree, while their abdomens are spikey and rough.
Though sometimes observed to be curious, they are typically easily startled and stray away from people and civilization. Preferring to make their homes in the thick spots of forests dotting the Deolis wilderness.
Chronikin Spotlight: Galdmara are often regarded with superstition and distrust. Their twitchy movements, uncoupled eyes and nocturnal scurrying lead many to see them as pests at best and bringers of chaos at worst. They are some of the few wild Chronikin that actually seek out human settlements. Many equate a surge of nightmares as a sign of a Galdmara infestation as it's believed that they are able to somehow derive nutrition from ‘consuming’ bad dreams and thus, cause people to suffer from them. However, some Norfmenn take the opposite approach, seeing Galdmara as a good omen. Those that have had their nightmares consumed report feeling restful and at ease. Some have even claimed mental ailments being cured after this experience. Chronikin researchers have found themselves in a sort of “chicken and the egg” situation, not knowing if the Galdmara are a cause of the nighttime distress or merely attracted to it. When threatened, Galdmara can hypnotize its attacker, the colors on its back pulsating in eerie waves.
Chronikin spotlight, Dyrekkr: Dyrekkr are ferocious, dimunitive predators that will savagely attack anything encroaching their territory. They embody much of the harsh wilderness that they roam, solitary hunters with an ancient allure. Many tribes of the Norfjal highlands revere Dyrekkr as a symbol of strength and conquest. Despite their ferocity and unpredictability, Dyrekkr are popular as partners for even fledgling Archivists of Norfjal, those mastering their bond rising to a higher status amongst their peers.

Even in the harsh environment of the Norfjal tundra, humans stake out their lives'. The Chronikin and Prosaics that stalk these snowy wastes display a ferocity unrivaled. Care must be taken when travelling between the sparce settlements where one might find reprieve. Up in the harsh north, only the strong survive.
Chronikin spotlight Freyline: Freyline are Chronikin resembling a friendly feline drawn to people in the harsh cold of Norfjal. Typically regarded warmly, wild Freyline are often allowed to lounge within the hearths of isolated homes, providing lasting heat and conserving precious wood for burning. It's believed that the comfort that a Freyline feels is evident by how pleasantly cozy it makes its surroundings. It's even well documented by travelers caught out in the elements that their shrinking campfires were kept lit by passing Freyline, nestled deep within the smoldering embers. Whether a true act of kindness or merely the Chronikin's nature to seek out these sources of heat is unknown.
However, much as it is with fire itself, Freyline can be very temperamental when provoked. The heat produced by the pads on their feet ignites their claws which can deliver a searing cut. If exceptionally distressed, Freyline are able to combust the heat emanating from their undersides, lighting ablaze anything flammable near them. When in groups, this reaction can be deadly. A group of angry Freyline can inadvertently burn down an entire village.
Chronikin Spotlight Naqravek: The Naqravek that guard the Zharakarian wastes are often regarded with less superstition and fear than other Nether Chronikin of the region. In fact, it’s been reported that they regularly hunt and kill Mawtnahim who desecrate gravesites and disturb the dead. For this reason, they are often seen as a good omen, despite their eerie appearance. Some of the religious leaders within the temples believe them to be shepherds of the dead, leading lost souls to the afterlife. They have even been seen congregating in great numbers around battlefields or places stricken with sickness. They exhibit no aggression and seem to merely wait until those on death’s door pass, guarding them from encroaching scavangers. They often linger until funeral rights and burials are performed, after which they skitter off into the desert night.
Despite their typical passive natures, Naqravek are fearsome fighters, able to launch spines from their raised tails at great speeds with deadly accuracy. If they mark someone that has defiled sacred tombs, they hunt them relentlessly, adding them to the graves they once plundered. They make for great bonded allies, though their connection with death makes them ill advised partners for Archivists faint of heart.
