This page is for parents/carers to see how much fun we have at Chigwell Primary Academy Running Club. Feel free to tweet your running activities out of school!
What a great afternoon holding our own @raceforlife. A massive well done to our children who cheered, supported and ran this afternoon. We have raised just over £500 but would love to raise more for @CR_UK - the link is below! Thank you to all of our sponsors!
The children know how much I love a fun fact about famous runners. I ended by informing them that despite being the fastest man (long distance) in the world Kipchoge is so inflexible that he can’t touch his toes!! Many of the children can so I have high hopes for the 2019 crew!!
At the end of the session we cooled down with ice lollies and spoke about everything the children have learned over the last few months. We recited past mantras, athlete quotes and discussed the perfect running posture.
Today was our last session of the year. We held a traditional sports day like the ones Mrs West experienced when she was a pupil at CPA back in the 80s!!
We did sprints, 3 legged, wheelbarrow and skipping races. We really did have lots of fun!!
Today we spoke about runners John Disley and Chris Brasher. These incredible men founded the London Marathon. These men ran the New York Marathon and had a vision of creating a similar event in London. With sponsorship from Gillette their dream became a reality in 1981.
Sienna was today’s Runner of the Week. Sienna really impressed us today with not only her running but her positive attitude at the start of the session. Sienna was also incredibly helpful when setting up for the activities. Well done Sienna!!
Today’s session started with 60 second intervals ( running then walking repeated). We discussed ideal running form/posture. The 60 second walk recovery gave them a chance to evaluate their posture and make changes which might help them to run better!!
Today we spoke about @jopavey. Jo is a huge inspiration to running mums like me & Mrs Horwood. Jo feels overwhelmed by being seen as inspirational. Jo says she is equally inspired when she lines up at race start lines with other runners chasing pb’s and raising money for charity.
Today’s Runner of the Week is Carlos. This is his 2nd time being awarded the trophy & for good reason. Carlos is an excellent runner & continues to improve his technique each week. He takes every task in his stride & is always willing to participate in group activities.
Our very last task today was Plogging. This is jogging whilst collecting litter. This trend began in Sweden (Swedish for picking up litter is “Plocka upp”) We only did it for 2 minutes but the children managed to collect lots of rubbish from the school field!! Well done all!
Today we started off with interval training (30 seconds of different activities) then we used lots of different outdoor play items to get the children running whilst having fun!! We ended with some relays.
Today I told the children about my physiotherapist @noelthatcher & his running achievements as a paralympian. Noel is partially sighted & represented Great Britain at 6 Paralympic Games winning 5 gold medals. Noel was also awarded an MBE in 1997.
