@jordanschneider conversation with Jeff Alstott reminded me his project is bigger than China + tech + AI + policy. He's building a cadre of experts, like we had for Russia in the Cold War. He cares about the next generation, is generous with advice, and is doing something about it. For anyone in college or grad school now, please read https://t.co/8ffLXyPy8m
@Iron_Man_Actual EX SUPRA is incredible. Project Forge and hypersonic logistics was my favorite part. Where is this masked man? If he's buried in some stultifying NCR defense industrial bullshit job I would be sad. Also great on @jordanschneider Second Breakfast.
James Cameron’s Aliens + his New Yorker profile = double feature. Obvious choice for DARPA Director. Exoskeletons to augment movement, remote monitoring of soldier vitals, unmanned systems for LIDAR scanning. Cameron’s fever dreams were SBIR eligible.
Be mindful that recommending @CJHandmer content should feel vaguely subversive and saying his name out loud hazards inadvertently conjuring the angry Holy Ghost of Hyman G. Rickover. Recommend appearances on @patio11 and @stratechery. The Salton Sea scheme is my favorite.
I’ve been asked to elaborate by one of the three people who read my posts. The full experience is best achieved by listening at 1.3 speed and well into about 6 hours of deep track appearances on increasingly esoteric podcasts.
My wife can always tell if I’ve been listening to too many @CJHandmer podcasts. I start jabbering about Los Angeles squandering its industrial patrimony and the need to eminent domain-max. She kindly requests any prospective terraforming begin in the backyard.
Now this is a simple military evaluation report I can get behind.
The rated officer is Omar Bradley.
His rater is George Patton.
His senior rater is Dwight Eisenhower.
There is beauty in simplicity, isn’t there?
My my… how we have complicated things.

Software code = instructions to a machine to do things, or not. Laws/policies = instructions to people to do things, or not. Both can be hacked for fun or profit. The best see opportunity where most see restriction.
Ask people what they do for work. No jargon or self-aggrandizement. Highly specific details and descriptions of actions routinely and personally executed. Not what the company does. Not team contributions. Individual exertions stripped bare of artifice. It’s like confession.
