Organised crime undermines Albania’s economic integrity, public administration, and public trust in institutions. This calls for a stronger focus on prevention besides criminal justice responses. Today’s roundtable brought together representatives political parties, researchers, the diplomatic community and civil society to discuss preventive measures against organised crime, with particular emphasis on the systematic use of measures to prevent organised crimes from infiltrating legitimate businesses and the legal economy.
“Blocking criminal access to the legal economy strengthens traditional efforts to combat organised crime. By leveraging tools such as licence revocation, public tender screening, and municipal sanctions, authorities create barriers that prevent criminals from infiltrating legitimate businesses. This effective approach against organised crime is crucial for Albania’s successful integration into the EU,” said EU Ambassador Silvio Gonzato during his remarks.
