Breaking: Private investigators have been poking around two Toronto supervised consumption sites of late. Staff worried they were hired by the Ford government to bolster its arguments against the sites.
They were right.

How Pierre Poilievre spun Canada's systemic issues of homelessness and addiction into a moral panic about safe consumption sites - for @TheGrindTO

I was told today a man was found frozen to death in Ottawa this morning. In our nation’s capital, in one of the richest countries in the world, we continue to lose people every year to the winter by denying housing for all in favour of more costly/cruel approaches.
Most people Lorenzo Berardinetti used to govern Ontario with — or sit on council beside, or practise law with — don't know he became homeless last year. He agreed to an interview with @bcohenn to share a cautionary tale. https://t.co/WDoEnftAQV via @TorontoStar
Doug Ford getting it done and getting Ontarians out of housing into encampments so he can fine them $10,000 and stick them into underfunded and overcrowded jails.
Just how many people have died of suspected drug poisoning in Waterloo region? #overdose#onhealth#onpoli
(hint: it's worse than last year - and last year was awful)
My video take on Bill 242, The Safer Municipalities Act — @fordnation's legislation to "deal with encampments." This legislation won't build housing, shelter, or create health supports, but it will actively criminalize homelessness — especially homeless people who use drugs.
The solution to homelessness is housing, not jail.
But since his government has failed to build homes, the Premier is making it easier to throw people in jail.
All this legislation does is criminalize homelessness and addictions – it’s going to make the problem worse, leading to more death and more suffering.
People need housing now – but once again, this government has abandoned us.
Indeed, the way to deal with housing issues is to build housing.
Which @fordnation has failed miserably at, despite it being his flagship issue.
His "encampment plan" is all to distract from his housing record, which is producing the lowest number of housing starts since 1955.
$50 M ÷ 234,000 homeless
= $210 to provide a permanent home for each person made homeless by the Conservative government.
Cancel the megaspa & invest the $2.2 B taxpayer subsidy to bring an end to homelessness.

Closing CTS sites and then criminalizing drug use in public will push users to even more unsafe practices and result in even more death. We cannot solve this crisis by pushing people further to the margins.
From @abacusdataca: 40% of Ontarians oppose the use of the Notwithstanding Clause to clear encampments while just 12% strongly agree with it. Overall, 69% of Ontarians are opposed, neutral, or unsure.
Just 1 in 5 @fordnation supporters strongly agree with the use of the Clause.
