📢📢📢📢‼️‼️The diverse non-Meitei groups residing in the cosmopolitan town of Moreh are facing severe and relentless extortion and threats from the Kuki militant groups.

Approximately two months ago, these Kuki militants demanded a sum of 600,000 rupees from the various communities such as Biharis, Bengalis, Gorkhas, etc. The community members somehow managed to gather 300,000 rupees and sent it to the militants.

Now, after the passage of two months, the Kuki militants have once again summoned a meeting with the leaders of all these communities at approximately 8 a.m., seeking the remaining amount.

Today, at around 10 a.m., they returned and demanded the outstanding 300,000 rupees. They resorted to brandishing firearms and physically assaulting individuals as well.

Given the current dire economic circumstances faced by these communities, it is utterly impossible for them to fulfill this demand.

Militants under ceasefire agreements with the Indian government pursuing separatist agenda engaged in nefarious activities, leading to tension and conflict. Their cultivation and trafficking of drugs, particularly the #opium poppy, have not only fueled the economy of these #militant groups but also perpetuated #violence.

Moreover, the militant bring exploit asylum seeker and exploit them for cheap labor in poppy cultivation. This practice serves their interests by exploiting the labor force for the production of narcotics, contributing to the perpetuation of both drug trade and instability in the region.

On this National Handloom Day, let's commemorate the opulent cultural heritage of Manipur and offer tribute to the adept artisans, Manipuri Imas, who persistently uphold this ageless craftsmanship.

Manipur enjoys a distinct place amongst the Handloom zones in India. Handloom industry is the largest cottage industry in the State. This industry has been flourishing since time immemorial. One of the special features of the industry is that women are the only weavers.

It is believed that Chitnu Tamitnu, a goddess, discovered the cotton and she also produced the yarn. When the threads are ready for weaving she arranged the required equipments and constructed the ‘Sinnaishang’ (work shed). It is also beieved that the goddess Panthoibee once saw a spider producing fine threads and making cowebs and from it she found the idea of weaving and thus started weaving.

The National Handloom Census, 1995-96 reported that Manipur has 4.62 lakh handloom workers (4.25 lakh weavers, 0.29 preparatory, 7,488 dyers & hired which is 2nd position among the top States of the country, 2.81 lakh looms which is 4th position among top States, consuming 12.196 lakh Kg. of yarn per month which is 7th position among top States and produced 96.07 lakh meters of handloom fabrics which is also 7th among top States of the country. Is it just a coincidence or a political message that the planned burial too is at Torbung and the date is 3rd August, 2023?

"Centre has accepted the removal of the clause for safeguarding the integrity of Manipur in the SoO" - media reports!

When Manipur assembly passed, Protection of Manipur People Bill, 2015 no one in Manipur except, Chin-Kuki protested, they violently attacked Churachandpur police station leading to police firing killing 9. Why? Because the bill took 1951 as the base year. About 70% of the present Chin-kuki population are immigrants and their descendants who migrated after 1951 from Myanmar. They feared losing their citizenship.

In another incident on 18th August 2015, Chin-Kuki attacked & vandalised almost all Meetei shops in border town MOREH where they were the majority to bully Meetei not to ask for ILP which could check illegal migration from Myanmar. However, Meetei didn't retaliate thinking they would come to their senses even when the government compensated.

On April 27, 2023 Chin-kuki set on fire open Gym facility at Churachandpur exploding their angst against govt's actions - fight drugs, forest encroachment, poppy plantation, etc. a Guwahati based media had shown live the violence, sort of promoting - revolting agnst state's injustice!

May 3, 2023 on pretext of protesting agnst Meetei's ST demand n taking advantage of Meetei's nonviolent culture of Vaishnavism, Chin-kuki without any provocation fm Meetei came n attacked nearby Meetei villages with AK rifles, looted n torched Meetei houses for 2-3 hrs without any intervention fm Assam Rifles or Manipur police.
Ferocity of Chin-kuki shocked and deeply hurt Meetei, who ultimately had to defend themselves!

At night all Meetei homes in Churachandpur having abt 9000 Meetei were destroyed n many Meetei women fall prey to the ferocious Chin-kukis as Assam Rifles could not do anything because of SoO.
That's how Manipur violence began.
Chin-kuki's aims to carve out homeland: ZALENGAM conceptualized in the 1980s - according to documents! Zalengam is a well planned action calendar. As one leader said, "even if not May 3, we would have a war with the Meetei, only looking for a trigger point". They never speak for peace but only Zalengam/Separate administration.

They provoke Meetei firing at them at their convenience because SoO gives them immunity from Indian army/Assam rifles. Meetei being at the receiving end - about 6000 Meetei at MOREH, about 3000 at peripheral - striking range of Chin-kuki's snippers and 2-inch mortars - a no man's land!
Affected Chin-kuki, especially from the valley area couldn't be more than 13,000 but affected Meetei from Churachandpur, Tengnoupal, Chandel, Kangpokpi district could be no less than 18,000.

We don't know the number of casualties on both sides but one Chin-kuki leader put 250, including 200+ at Khamenlok for Meetei n Chin-kuki's casualty are less. Fact is Chin-kuki's aim is to keep trouble brewing to mount maximum pressure on the government of India. Question is - how could in a democratic country a group of people who kill fellow men to achieve their ZALENGAM be given respect and honour n be rewarded? Instead they should be contained, disarmed n brought to justice.

WMC urge Hon'ble PM Shri Modiji @narendramodi to abrogate the SoO Agreement with Chin-kuki militants. This can only bring normalcy.
