Here in Kent, our #hedgehogs continue to thrive, the biggest has started slowing down to prepare for #hibernation, while the others continue to visit each night and are eating well and putting on weight nicely! @PTES

Although omnivores, the rat's preference is grain so it's bird food that attracts them. My guess is you've been leaving bird food out, and have nice comfy places in your garden for nesting. You need to stop feeding the birds (they have a good supply of natural food at the moment) and follow the below instructions to get the rats to leave your garden.
Please don't stop putting out kitten biscuits for the hedgehogs, they will die of starvation without help.
Yes, rats will attack hedgehogs. They will also take over and guard a hedgehog feeder, preventing the hedgehog from entering.
But you can beat them, and get them to leave, you just need to be patient and diligent.🥰

@TQ591468 We feed the hedgehogs in two feeding stations in the back garden. We no longer scatter on the lawn actually but if you had engaged with us in a normal and non-confrontional way, we'd have been happy to tell you this.

The comments below confirmed our worst fears that our hedgehog visitors have somehow eaten rat poison. How desperately sad and wrong that a red-listed animal that we are trying to hard to protect has found something so harmful when foraging nearby. @ChrisGPackham @TMBC_Kent

Our hedgehogs are thriving, we now have at least 5 each night coming for food, water and sometimes staying over in one of the houses, but today we've seen something we never saw before - bright blue 💩 and it's worrying us @HedgehogCabin - any ideas, please? #hedgehogs

I've advised them to block the misery and just focus on the positive!
