10 years ago my wife, the mum of our kids & the MP for Batley&Spen was killed by a far right extremist.
At anniversaries I try to be optimistic about the future. But not this time. In the ten years since she was killed we have gone backwards & I fear our democracy is now at risk

"Medicine can have extraordinary meaning. But it cannot substitute for being present in your own life. The world may need us as physicians.
But the people who love us need us as ourselves.
And that is the role no one else can fill."
Brilliant - and much love to you

In 2024 NHS staff reported working unpaid overtime equivalent to at least 49 000 full time employees.
A BMJ data analysis finds this discretionary effort, which has long underpinned NHS delivery, is declining. What does this mean for workforce planning?

My piece on the responses to the UK Covid-UK Inquiry report that try to airbrush the dead away.

[1/16] Deeply flawed and completely misleading modelling from Medifintech’s own @gdcuk Graham Crossley at @Quilter. Here's why the £125k pension headline is erroneous, misleading, and deeply flawed 👇
As I have stated - this lab will "change" our concepts and approach to PVD - thee best human limb model to test devices- will not and should not come to market without going their rigorous evaluation. The doors are open! @trisharoymd@VascularABC @mmonterobaker @farkomd

Angios show patent to patent. MRI shows what’s in between. Hard rock? Soft plaque? MRI signal mirrors mechanics, turning sight into touch. A virtual wire traversal test, before you scrub! @AlanLumsdenMD@VascularABC . https://t.co/RemUd3HzKG
It is possible to get to the right iliac bifur via a retroperitoneal incision. It’s often said a counter incision is required/femoral anastomosis. With appropriate setup it can be accomplished. The anastomosis is difficult for the surgeon(trainee) but easier for patient recovery
Proud to contribute frontline testimony to tonight's enraging @ITVX documentary "The Covid Contracts: Follow the Money".
Boris Johnson's government squandered £8.7 billion on unusable PPE - while nurses wore bin bags, NHS staff started dying, and grifters like Michelle Mone saw an opportunity to make millions.
We were given masks whose ear loops fell off & aprons so flimsy they ripped apart when you tried to put them on.
NHS staff stepped up - like so many millions of ordinary, decent Britons across the country.
I will never stop being sickened by the greed, immorality and absolute cynicism of the minority who saw a global pandemic as their chance for easy money.
Tonight, 10.15pm, ITV1.
Another set of awful drug-death stats for Scotland from @NatRecordsScot - as some of us suggested last year, a one-year drop was nothing to celebrate and certainly no evidence we had turned a corner. A short THREAD on some key findings from the data...
