How to fall in love with New York:
-First. Don’t fight the city. It was here before you and it’ll be here long after you. Accept defeat. It already won.
- If you can’t beat them, join them.
You’re a New Yorker now. You ride the subway. You stay out too late and drink too much and work too hard. You pursue the impossible because there is no greater pursuit and there is no where else to do it but here. You move fast. You get to the point. If someone falls you pick them up and you both keep going. Thats the spirit of this city. That’s what makes it great. People pick people up here.
- But it’s a shark tank. You’ll be thrown in the deep end. You better know how to swim. If you don’t know how to swim, you’ll learn fast.
- You’re going to meet artists athletes rich kids entrepreneurs bankers bakers people who have everything paid for people barely scraping by. The key is stop comparing. They have nothing to do with you. Remember why you’re here. Try to get to know people instead of trying to figure out what they can do for you, or what void they can fill. Get curious.
- This city will test you in ways no other place on earth will. You can’t really love New York until you hate it. Let it break you. Let it shape you. Let it make you someone better. Doesn’t matter if you stay here or not, what matters is you leave here not the same as you were when you came here.
- Follow your gut. See where it leads you. Maybe you came here to practice law but you’ve always wanted to open a sushi shop (I know a person who did this). Everything goes here. Everyone belongs here. You can be whoever you want here.

This the quintessential story of how sports reflects the state of the world. Thousands of fans have waited for Game 3 their whole lives and now they’re priced out of entering the game and can’t even celebrate outside because one billionaire gets to attend the game for free.
