For me the most useful part is a log of decisions, corrections and rules, like "never do X without asking" or "this replaces that." Code doesn't belong there. The repo already has it.
Mine was a bit cloteres as we.
What fixed it:
- Set retain_mission so it only saves decisions, preferences, corrections and rules. Tell it to drop status updates ("in progress," "waiting for") outright, or it keeps them labeled "not durable." Test it with dry-run-extract first.
• You can't edit observations. Invalidate the facts they came from, and they rebuild.
• Back up with transfer/export. Plain /export only gives you the config.
• Run a weekly cron to remove duplicates.
• Keep the recall budget low, and keep how-tos in docs.

Yes I mostly use both for coding. But for me debugging and or reviews is much strong in codex. Writing code and planning goes to opus.

I have similar things, I have a hermes and muse on top. Hermes is responsible for the main coordination and has excellent local memory, and has access to all my ssh, files etc . Grok is excellent at doing research, writing reports and searching x. Muse is responsible for meta products. Both grok and hermes have access to my Claude, codex and Gemini subs
