@EVKontorovich It’s ludicrous to think that Turkey while openly trying to rebuild an Ottoman-style empire using islamic ideology, and expanding its influence and control over other territories. Then expect Israel to simply sit back and watch without responding.
Not trying to be disrespectful, but let’s be honest about the history here. This not meant as an attack on anyone, just a factual perspective.
Somalia doesn’t even have respect for itself. If it had real respect for itself, it would’ve secured the 1960 union properly through consensus and ratification. Somaliland wouldn’t still be an issue 60+ years later.
You want people to respect Somalia, but you don’t extend that same respect to Somaliland’s position. You reject their reality, then expect everyone else to accept yours.
Look at the map, beyond the green zones in the capital, what real progress has been made in the wider areas still considered part of Somalia?
If you’re looking for respect, there are bigger priorities Somalia needs to focus on right now beyond the Somaliland issue.

I’m so proud of the people of Israel, and I do identify with their struggle. I also understand why many people identify with Israel, as they see it as a nation fighting to defend its homeland in a difficult environment, often feeling as though it faces opposition from much of the world.
💯 American policy, particularly the the bureaucrat leftover from the liberal Hillary Clinton team inside the state department….policy seems more committed to helping rebuild the Turkish empire in the Horn of Africa.
40 years of American taxpayer going to Somalia….Somalia government still does not exist beyond the green zone in Mogadishu, And the American policy makers of Africa have nothing to show for it, except the biggest Turkish military outside of Turkey.
Security environment and infrastructure made possible in part by American military spending helped create the conditions for Turkey to establish its largest military base outside of Turkey. In effect, U.S. resources contributed to Turkey's growing influence in Somalia and its broader ambition to expand its regional power.
The State Department’s Somaliland language reads like a gift to Ankara.
Siyad Madey argues Washington just undercut its best Red Sea option while strengthening Turkey’s Horn of Africa position.

I totally agree with you.
But I could almost hear many of those who have spent years managing Somalia policy in the U.S. government saying, “Oh, we’re not done yet. We have to make sure that Turkey’s complete takeover of Somalia is subsidized.”
Without American blood and billions spent on operations, Turkey could never have built its largest overseas base in Somalia. After all the money and effort invested by the United States, there is still no real Somali government outside Mogadishu, and the government’s authority remains largely confined to the capital. The one thing that has been successfully achieved, however, is subsidizing Turkey’s expansion in Somalia, allowing it to establish its largest overseas military base and expand its influence, all at the expense of the American taxpayer.
Trump joked that a ceasefire in the Middle East means people are shooting more moderately. If that is the standard of a ceasefire, then Israel is simply upholding it. Iran launched missiles, Israel responded, and deterrence remains intact. The reality is that no country is expected to absorb attacks and pretend that restraint alone creates peace when your neighbor is a terrorist.
And if the argument is really about Lebanon, then an obvious question follows. Why would the Islamic regime in Iran launch retaliatory strikes over Israeli operations against Hezbollah if Hezbollah is supposedly an independent Lebanese faction acting on Lebanese interests and not an Iranian proxy? You cannot simultaneously claim Hezbollah acts on its own and then have Tehran respond as though it was attacked directly.
