“After 35 years of struggle, we are working hard for full international recognition.” Mohamed Bihi Yonis, former #Somaliland minister of foreign affairs.
Congratulations to H.E. President @Abdirahmanirro, the Gov’t & people of #Somaliland on the 66th anniversary of independence from the #UK🇬🇧 whilst #Somalia#Italiana🇮🇹 was still a #UN🇺🇳 trust. Be proud of your history, resilience, democracy & achievements: a model for the region!
I extend my warmest congratulations to all the people of the Republic of Somaliland on the 66th anniversary of our independence, 26 June 1960. On this historic day, Somaliland became the first of the five Somali territories to attain independence.
President’s state visit was not only about diplomacy, it was about saving lives. Israel has provided free heart treatment to 49 Somaliland children, with more receiving care. Nine children are waiting for life-saving surgery, let’s keep them in our prayers.
A strong Somaliland–Israel partnership will bring lasting benefits in health, water, agriculture, education, trade and national security.
President of Somaliland:
We're older than Mogadishu. We're older than Somalia.
We're older than Kenya. We're older than Uganda.
We're older than maybe half of African countries.

This was not a symbolic meeting, it was a strategic and practical one. Somaliland and Israel are building a deep partnership based on concrete cooperation, shared interests, and real results.
Bismillahi Rahmani Rahiim;
I have arrived in Israel as the first President of the Republic of Somaliland to undertake a State Visit, and I am honoured by the warm welcome extended by my friend, President @Isaac_Herzog
For thirty-five years, the people of Somaliland have built a peaceful, democratic, and resilient nation. We asked the world: Do you see us? Israel answered first. Today marks a historic milestone in our journey and the beginning of a new chapter in the relationship between Somaliland and Israel.
To the people of Somaliland: I carry your hopes and aspirations with me. Generations have struggled, sacrificed, and persevered to bring our nation to this moment. We will seize this opportunity with confidence, wisdom, and determination, always guided by the interests of our people and our Republic.
Today, history is being written, and Somaliland stands ready to forge a shared future founded on friendship, cooperation, and mutual respect.

This girl is very articulate. She spoke with passion and impeccably presented the case for Somaliland's recognition. She was concise and candid in her persuasive argument for the international community to recognise Somaliland. Well done👏👏
Viva Somaliland!

Dr Essa Kayd, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of #Somaliland, delivers a heartfelt message emphasizing Somaliland's rich history, its struggle for independence, and the ongoing quest for international re-recognition.
He highlights Somaliland's unique values, resilience, and calls on the global community and worldwide to support its sovereignty and stability in the Horn of Africa.
The story of Somaliland is not a recent one. @DrEssaKayd reminds global that the nation's journey began long before its independence over 66 years ago. Even before becoming a British protectorate, Somaliland governed itself through the rule of law, emphasizing justice, accountability, and communal responsibility. The people protected their land, resolved conflicts, and engaged in trade with nations worldwide.

Today, at the Presidential Palace, I received
@gidonsaar H.E. Mr. Gideon Sa’ar, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Israel, and a high-level delegation on an official visit to the Republic of Somaliland, the first such visit by a foreign minister in 34 years after recognition. I conveyed my deep appreciation to the Government of Israel for its historic and courageous decision of 26 December 2025 to formally recognize the Republic of Somaliland. This milestone reflects a relationship founded on mutual respect and shared interests, aimed at cooperation and stability without prejudice to any party.
I emphasized that this recognition opens a new chapter of formal diplomatic relations, security, economic, and development cooperation, serving the mutual interests of both nations and contributing positively to peace and stability in the Horn of Africa.
I also reaffirmed that Somaliland is a reliable and responsible partner, strategically positioned and committed to advancing regional and international peace, security, and constructive engagement.
This is a historic moment as we warmly welcome @netanyahu the Prime Minister of the State of Israel’s recognition of the Republic of Somaliland and affirm Somaliland’s readiness to join the Abraham Accords. This step marks the beginning of a strategic partnership that advances mutual interests, strengthens regional peace and security, and delivers shared benefits to all stakeholders, without prejudice to any party.

This old man was brought by his son to vote at Tuulaada Dara-Godle Station. A village out of Berbera City. He is sick and was on drip at the health center. I asked why bother. The answer: may be I won’t be alive coming days but I want the world to know my country is a democracy!
Somaliland goes to vote. The long-awaited day arrived. It is the 8th time we are called to express our will: 3 Presidential elections, 2 local council elections, 1 parliament election, 1 constitutional referendum. Now a combined one that counts 2 for us.
