Bessie Coleman was determined to fly, and moved to France to make it happen. She became the first African American woman to earn a pilot’s license and continues to inspire pilots around the world. Coleman died at age 34, today in 1926.

Shot down in his Hurricane he later became one of Archie McIndoe’s Patients.
He survived the War. After running his own business in Britain he went to live in Canada.
24 March 1944. Flight Sergeant Nicholas Stephen Alkemade, RAF Avro Lancaster DS664 rear gunner, survived a fall of 18,000 feet without a parachute when abandoning his out of control and burning aircraft over Germany.

Around 10% of its pilots were women and they achieved fair pay in 1943, a Uk first.

The Beechcraft Model 34 'Twin Quad' was a twin-engine airliner, dating from 1947. Despite being a useful performer, the shear quantity of cheap surplus ex-military aircraft available meant no operator wanted to pay out for an expensive brand new design!
