The word they’re looking for is “chick flick” but that feels outdated so they’re collapsing the whole spectrum of chick flicks into “RomCom” which is only one of the subgenres!
@unrealpathan I do think Interstellar has grown on general audiences over time but they never disliked it, it was always a spectacle that they’ve only embraced more with the years passing
yeah i mean disclosure day has massive screenplay issues and is really muddled with what it has to say a lot of the time (friend leaves room) if Steven Spielberg was a fire truck he would be the biggest one in the world
I also feel like nobody really understands Lead vs Supporting, and that is especially true for Actress because the biggest role for an actress in a movie is frequently a supporting role so there is less of a dividing line than for Actor
I feel like sometimes studios think Supporting Actress is an easier category than Best Actress, but they’ve just moved all the competitive leads into Supporting and it isn’t strategic at all
@ScottJeschke Fair, I do think it requires that element because no way would I be in China staring down WWIII and trusting American news on anything if there wasn’t a magic sort of human with god-like powers of Believing Her lol
The whole point of Emily Blunt’s character is her empathy abilities are able to cut through the cynicism and disbelief to connect with all of humanity- it’s why SHE has to be the one to disclose.
I agree. And I enjoyed the movie, but I just didn't believe the central conceit. The world is so cynical that most people would just shrug or just wouldn't believe. And it pains me to say that, because I hate cynical movies. But I almost feel the premise of Don't Look Up would make more sense here. Weirdly Close Encounters feels way more grounded
We have got to be a more serious people. You can’t say this shit with a straight face when BFG, 1941, and Ready Player One are out there. Some of you have never even heard of Always.
