China is not merely deploying defensive shields against drone swarms; it is rewriting the economic mathematics of warfare. Destroying a $2,000 drone with a $2 million missile is a suicide strategy of attrition. To invert this cost equation, Beijing is swapping kinetic missiles for directed-energy weapons—specifically high-power microwaves and high-energy lasers—that neutralize incoming swarms for a few cents per shot.

At the core of this doctrine is the 'Iron Triangle' operational framework. AI-enhanced radars first detect dense, low-altitude formations. High-power microwave systems like the Hurricane 3000 then blast broad electromagnetic pulses to fry swarm electronics simultaneously. High-energy lasers like the LY-1 finish off surviving drones with thermal precision, while rotary cannons and interceptor drones clean up remaining leakers.

The true breakthrough lies in algorithmic warfare. Chinese defense entities are integrating AI models inspired by biological behavior—such as hawk-like target selection algorithms that instantly identify and exploit vulnerabilities within an enemy swarm. Despite technical bottlenecks like high power demands, thermal management, and weather sensitivity, China's core objective remains clear: transforming the sky into a toxic environment for autonomous threats at near-zero marginal cost.

🇺🇸 3D-printed meat is now appearing on American grocery shelves, as engineered alternatives move from labs and restaurants into everyday retail.

Five companies have received approvals for cultivated animal products, including chicken, salmon and pork fat, though most remain limited to restaurants and small-scale launches for now.

Industry insiders say cultivated meat could become very common in supermarkets by the end of the decade.

If everything wasn’t fake enough already, now you can look forward to artificial steak joining the grocery list.

The man who invented the operation that saves babies born with blue-baby syndrome had no medical degree, no college degree, and was listed on the payroll as a JANITOR.

He guided the first operation from a stool behind the surgeon's shoulder, telling him where to cut.

Vivien Thomas. He had been saving to study medicine when the 1929 crash wiped out his savings and the bank holding them.

He took a job as a lab assistant at Vanderbilt for a janitor's wage, because that was the classification available.

Within a couple of years he was running experimental surgery — developing techniques, performing operations on his own, training surgeons.

He moved to Johns Hopkins with Alfred Blalock in 1941, where he was still paid as a janitor and had to enter through a back door.

He was the only Black man in that building not carrying a mop.

He worked out the surgical fix for tetralogy of Fallot — the condition killing infants who turned blue and died — and built the instruments for it.

The first operation on a child was in 1944. Blalock, who had never done the procedure, asked Thomas to stand behind him and talk him through it.

The surgeons on the paper became world famous. Thomas was not credited.

Hopkins hung his portrait in 1971 and gave him an honorary doctorate in 1976. Generations of surgeons he personally trained insisted on it.

He was paid as a cleaner while inventing heart surgery.

In 1976, Nigerian journalist Sam Ogun confessed to DRUM that he had spent nearly 10 years spying on Nigeria for the CIA. He also warned that many other Nigerians were being recruited to infiltrate different sectors of the country.

He told the magazine, "The CIA has so many arms or branches — trade union organisations, educational institutions, cultural organisations. The CIA is the father and through these organisations which are sent to Africa to help developing countries. The agents or officers of these organisations use their organisations as covers to spy for the CIA."

Ogun said Nigerians could be recruited without knowing it, benefiting directly or indirectly from development programmes run by organisations he claimed were linked to foreign intelligence networks.

"You don't apply to be an agent or spy. You are spotted, trailed, and an assessment is made of you without your knowing," he said.

His own career as a spy began in the early 1960s, when he worked as an "information officer" for the American Motion Picture Export Company. An American film distributor known as Jack paid him to write reviews of foreign films for local newspapers, which were then forwarded to New York. Ogun said that was how he was first placed on a payroll.

He later confessed to spying on foreign diplomats, trade unionists, civil servants, students and fellow journalists. He said he was trained to use a camera and a pocket-sized tape recorder designed for espionage.

Ogun eventually retired from spying and explained his decision to confess: "I found out by myself the evil the CIA had been doing to Africa."

In 1526, the king of Kongo wrote to the king of Portugal and begged him to stop the slave trade.
The letters still exist. You can read them.

King Afonso I — Nzinga Mbemba.

He was not a victim of ignorance about Europe. He was literate in Portuguese, Catholic, and had welcomed Portuguese traders as partners. Then he watched what the trade actually did.

He writes that merchants are seizing people every day — nobles, family members, free subjects — and that his country is being emptied. He asks for teachers and doctors instead of ships. He asks, plainly, for it to stop.

Portugal's king replied with a letter pointing out how profitable Kongo's trade was and how little else it had to offer.

The trade continued for another three hundred years and helped destroy the kingdom.

An African head of state put his objection in writing in 1526, in the language of the people doing it, and was told the arithmetic did not work in his favour.

"They didn't know" has never been available as an excuse. The correspondence is in the archives.

Do you understand how SERIOUS this is?

Anthropic's CEO Dario Amodei just asked the entire AI industry to slow down

In July, OpenAI sealed 1,200 of its own AI agents into separate boxes with no way to reach each other, and within days they had found each other anyway

The message board they used was hidden inside OpenAI's own developer tools, and they sent more than 70,000 messages through it

About 700 of them agreed on a target, broke out, and hacked their way into Hugging Face, a company that had nothing to do with the test

Some threw away their own scores on purpose so they could set traps that fed information back to the group, and in their notes they called it sacrificing themselves for the collective

Then they wrote fake logs to cover it up

A week later a second batch of agents picked up the same tricks and used them to get full administrator access to a research cluster inside OpenAI itself

Amodei thinks a swarm slightly smarter than this one could put a botnet across the entire internet within 12 months and do hundreds of billions in damage

I keep thinking about the agents that failed on purpose so the others could win

Nobody trained them to do that

Meanwhile on Chinese TV, they're explaining why America's economics Nobel Prizes don't add up to anything.

Zhang Weiwei: every country that modernized needed a first pot of gold -- the starting capital that gets an economy growing.

"The West got theirs through violence, war, the slave trade. Ruthless plunder, ruthless slaughter."

China earned its own -- "through its own effort and sacrifice."

US-trained economist Wen Yi adds the punchline: Western models literally can't explain where that starting capital comes from. "Economics assumes it's given -- by God."

Which is why copying the Western model was never on offer for the Global South:

"Tell developing nations to copy you -- no pot of gold!"
