Jeff Bezos: "If people want me to pay more billions, then let's have that debate, but don't pretend that that's gonna solve the problem. You could double the taxes I pay, and it's not gonna help that teacher in Queens.... Airbnb isn't causing high rents. What's really causing high rent is government intervention."
‼️California New “Mileage-Based Road Tax” that would charge drivers up to 2 cents per mile per vehicle, regardless of gas or electric.⛽️⚡️ ⚠️For the average driver logging 15,000 miles per year, this would mean about $300 extra per car, every year.💰 👀Supporters say the plan offsets declining gas tax revenue as EV adoption grows, while critics warn it would raise the cost of living for working families and commuters and introduce privacy concerns tied to mileage tracking.
Amid leadership shakeup, the California High-Speed Rail Authority continues to struggle with transparency.
For the 2nd month in a row, project leaders have dodged interviews with us.
New board chair Steve Kawa preached about transparency then ignored me after today's meeting:
California sends out its annual notice that the state’s gas tax is going up another 2 cents.
The state’s gas tax will be 63.4 cents per gallon of regular starting July 1.
Alison Lee is hilarious.
“There’s some really great golfers out here, and I want more people to come out and see how amazing these players are.
“The fact that we’re here in Los Angeles, I mean they have no excuses. The Kings are out. The Lakers are out. They can come out here and watch. There’s not really much else going on this week. So they’ve got time.”
Gavin Newsom just added $324,000 to every new house in California.

The LAPD released footage of rat-infested encampments in the Pico-Union neighborhood in Los Angeles.
Los Angeles spends hundreds of millions of taxpayer funds on homelessness services each year.
One of the wildest stories you may read today ⬇️
A couple accidentally showed up to a game with tickets to the next night's game
So they bought 2 more tickets and ended up catching Willy Adames' home run ball
Then they came back the next night with their original tickets, sitting nearly in the exact same spot as the night before ...
Then Adames hit another home run and they caught it AGAIN 🤯
Los Angeles is doing their best to squeeze out golf clubs. A proposed tax of $4 per square feet on private country clubs which was inspired by Malcolm Gladwell’s erroneous podcast on private golf courses, could see some clubs shutter.
The tax will affect 6 courses to the tune of $250M or $41.6M per club per year!!!
I don’t know if there is a private club in the USA that could afford an annual tax bill of $41.6M. Assuming each club had 300 members (some have less) that would increase dues roughly $140,000 for every member (and taxes have a way of going up).
And if these clubs fold - or even if a couple fold- what will be the end result- less grass and more concrete. Homes will replace these open spaces (even if it is private).
Council Member Nazarian is trying to get this on the ballot in November 2026. If it makes the ballot I imagine the voters of LA will pass it.
If I am a private club in LA, I am asking a couple of members who are on their deathbed to be buried on the golf course and then rezone the club as a cemetery.
