The Sunflower Summer program starts today. If you want to visit KS sites with your child, the app has museums, parks, etc. You get discounted entry, & every place you check in, that site gets a fee from the program. It’s a great way to #travelkansas and help fund historic sites.
The Sunflower Summer program is back with more than 230 tourism attractions for Kansas families to visit for free. From museums and historic sites to zoos and art galleries, there’s something to explore in every corner of our state. More information: https://t.co/IGQXQF6ovZ
I did not realize that Barber County was named for Lawrence pioneer Thomas Barber. If you’re ever near the KU campus (near the Lied/Dole Centers), you can visit his grave in the Pioneer Cemetery.
Barber County: Formed in 1867, named after Thomas Barber, a free-stater who died in the “Wakarusa War” during the Bleeding Kansas period. The County Seat is Medicine Lodge.
Barton County: Formed in 1867, named after American Red Cross founder and Civil War battlefield nurse Clara Barton. The County Seat is Great Bend.
Bourbon County: Formed in 1855, named after Bourbon County, KY where many pro-slavery settlers in the area were from. The County Seat is Fort Scott.
Last year, my daughter and I waited in line for beignets on Fat Tuesday for over an hour. We left empty handed and hungry. And she was late for school.
This year, I heard her wake up before sunrise. We were first in line. And the early girl got the beignet. #lifelessons
@klseaboldt When I’m traveling, I tell people I’m from “Kansas.” And I still get comments about the Chiefs. It happened internationally even before Mahomes. But now it’s almost every time.
Charlie Hicks ate his lunch and dinner at the Shrimp Basket in Pensacola, Florida, every day for 10 years. When he suddenly stopped showing up, the chef went looking for him – ultimately saving his life. @SteveHartmanCBS is On the Road.
@Judge_Leben@alittleleader The attorneys I talked to over the years who received these appointments worked really hard for the clients. And they usually had a better appreciation for the work I did as a public defender. But I agree with the article—the unique KCMO legal community is what makes this work.
