It is the birthday of Taras Shevchenko (1814-61), Ukraine’s bard, born into serfdom. When Russians invaded in 2022, they planted a bullet in the forehead of his monument, which a Ukrainian man then carefully bandaged. Below is my translation of a poem by Pyotr Buturlin (1859-95).

Bannon versus Musk is symptomatic of the broader clash between Bannon's Dracula Right (European castles, Julius Evola, dubious relics, magical amulets) and Elon's Frankenstein Right (promethean tech fantasies, vivisections, pseudo-medicine).
