@RossWeber18 @tos20141 @jyu1523@LisaZha15073078@MClerkship I loved how in your presentation you mentioned how most clinicians have a differential already in mind when they think of a pt with hx of alcohol use (intoxication, withdrawal, cirrhosis etc) and it's very easy to miss other important details in the presentation
We identified stigmatization of alcohol use disorder as a barrier to effective medical care. Steps need to be taken at the medical and structural levels to address these biases. @tos20141 @jyu1523@LisaZha15073078@MClerkship
@PalilloAnthony@NathanielGoldb7@DanW_2021@StevenCajamarc8@MClerkship I've found this to be a common challenge in the hospital. Teaching back and involving more health literate family members help but sometimes patients with low health literacy have other obstacles (ex. language barrier etc) that really make this a challenge!
What is Health Literacy? And why does it matter? Check out this infographic my classmates and I made to find out more! It's time to start checking in on Health Literacy!
Food deserts are a public health crisis engineered by institutionalized racism in America. Check out our infographic summarizing cardiovascular impacts & general strategies to advocate for patients experiencing food insecurity @MClerkship@catheri18173530@CarrieSha3@peejwalker
Similarly, this graph looks at factors impacting upwards mobility in the community. Both family and community factors contribute to predicted health status. Policies that intervene in childhood to address health disparities may help increase upward mobility.

@NathanielGoldb7 Graphics like this are so important and really highlight how SES and race impact access to testing/chance of testing positive. NYT also reported on this.

@S__Baksh@ScienceMagazine@MClerkship Many people would assume that predicted health care cost is proportional to metrics of health. It's interesting how this paper highlights the easy-to-miss discrepancies between these variables to highlight racial inequality. #MClerkship#healthequity
Increasingly medical technologies are gaining attention for entrenching racism. In this 2019 @ScienceMagazine paper the authors find that a widely used algorithm to allocate more resources to "sicker" patients discriminates against Black people @MClerkship
