On the occasion of the passing of former #UnitedStates President Jimmy Carter, the #IACHR expresses its appreciation for his life’s work. During his presidency, human rights were central to his foreign policy. He condemned the severe human rights violations committed by dictatorships and supported key IACHR investigations, such as the historic visit to Argentina in 1979.

After leaving the White House, through the Carter Center, he dedicated his life to conflict mediation, promoting democratic elections, human rights, and the eradication of diseases.

His legacy of promoting justice, equality and dignity will continue to inspire the defense of #HumanRights in the Americas and around the world.
